Year 12 Student recognised in 2018 Pierre de Coubertin Awards

JMSS Year 12 student, Rushi Patel, has been recognised in this year's Pierre de Coubertin Awards.

The awards, which are facilitated by the Australian Olympic Committee  recognise secondary school students who demonstrate values which are consistent with the Olympic Movement through participation in sporting activities.

Rushi, who has been active in organising a number of sporting activities and clubs enjoyed by JMSS students including weekly Running Club, 'Battle of the Ages' sporting events and a Breakfast Club aimed at promoting proper nutrition during intense periods of study, was presented his award in a ceremony at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) late in Term 2.

As is one of the additional requirements of eligibility for the awards, Rushi is also a keen athlete,  and has represented JMSS in a number of inter-school sports since joining us as a Year 10 in 2016. Congratulations and well done, Rushi!

JMSS Assistant Principal recognised for educational milestone

Special congratulations for JMSS Assistant Principal, Ms. Sally Cheah-Johnson, who was recently recognised for 40 years of service in education.

Ms. Cheah-Johnson, who has been at John Monash Science School since it's first year of operation, has always worked in support of students and student learning outcomes at a number of schools throughout her career, and currently leads student wellbeing and positive education initiatives here at the school - helping our students remain happy, healthy and supported through their final years of secondary schooling.

On behalf of the students, staff and the entire school community, we congratulate Sally on her wonderful achievement, extend our sincere thanks for her ongoing service to the school, and look forward to her ongoing role in shaping the future of John Monash Science School. Congratulations Sally!

New cohort of Regional Science Exchange students arrive at JMSS

This week (Week 2, Term 3) JMSS is proud to welcome a new cohort of students from regional and rural Victoria as part of our Regional Science Exchange program.

The visiting students, who come from a wide selection of regional locations including Mallacoota on the state's eastern-most coast, Casterton (South-West), Red Cliffs (North-West) and Mount Beauty in Victoria's Alpine region, will spend three weeks experiencing life, learning and lessons here at John Monash, and have the opportunity to engage with different schools within Monash University's Faculty of Science.

During their time here, the students will be on homestay with a number of JMSS families, who have generously opened up their homes in support of the program. A big thank you to the Meaden, Peake, Taylor, Harris, Zheng, Stephens, Collins, Ball, Robinson, Hassani, Barnes and Cartagena families for their support!
