The Year 12’s are still enjoying a positive, social and nutritious start to their Friday’s with their breakies.

Monash Business School - Accounting Week Case Study Competition

Congratulations to Damian Armstrong, Benjamin Vincent and James Laven, who have been selected as one of 6 teams to participate in the final stage of the Accounting Week Case Study Competition.

The boys were required to write a 2000 word report in response to a fictional case study and provided recommendations. The final stage involves a 10 minute presentation and Q&A session to the panel of judges, where they must explain their proposed business solution.

The boys will be attending Monash University on Wednesday, 5 September.  To get to this stage of the competition is an outstanding achievement and we wish them the best of luck!

Prizes

A prize of $1,000 and a trophy/plaque will be awarded to the winning school. A further $200 visa prepaid gift card, certificate and trophy will be awarded to each winning team member. A certificate of participation will be presented to all other participants involved in the Final Stage.

School Sport Australia (SSA) Basketball Championships

Congratulations to Riley Spicer from Year 11, who competed in the SSA Basketball Championship last week and to Lachie Ahale from Year 12, who was also selected as an emergency for the team.

Riley WON the following games;

Game 1 against Queensland by 59 points.

Game 2 against the Northern Territory by 65 points.

Game 3 against New South Wales by 10 points.

Game 4 against Western Australia by 50 points.

And WON the SEMI FINAL against the Northern Territory by 126 points.

His team unfortunately, lost the Grand Final by a close 10 points to New South Wales.

Riley reflected that he:

Learnt about leadership and professionalism, while interacting with other states and created new friendships with people.

The team was disappointed with the loss in the Grand Final, but learnt a lot  from our teammates and Darwin, and look forward to going again next year in Bendigo.

School Captains' Report

A few weeks into Term 3 and things are moving along quickly in Senior School!   All VCE students are seeing the year draw to a rapid close.  With students of Units 3 & 4 subjects learning the last 'Areas of Study', there are many SACs and other assessments throughout the year levels.

As we head towards exam time, especially for the Year 12's, students are prepping to the best of their abilities, whilst still also enjoying the precious time many of us have left here at Lilydale!

The end of the year also means 2019 subject selection for the Year 11's, as they either continue on with subjects already undertaken, or make use of the school’s comprehensive curriculum to pick up something new.

Similarly, the Year 12's have recently had the exciting, yet daunting, task of setting up a VTAC account for tertiary education next year.  Best of luck to all those applying for places and also, to those who are pursuing other pathways!

The Year 11 VCAL students have been busy, holding a bottom half free dress day and sausage sizzle with the funds raised going towards projects at local primary schools. Congratulations to the students involved for such a successful day!

Outside of the classroom, there has been many successes, with the 2018 School Production of 'We Will Rock You' coming up this week, which is sure to be incredible, if the amount of effort and time put into it by our amazing students and teachers is any indication!

Finally, a reminder to Year 12 students that the 'Friday Morning Breakfasts' are still running, 8:00 to 8:30 am, now with the use of our brand new kitchen appliances, courtesy of Ms Powson! Be sure to come on down for a delicious start to the day!

SAC's

A reminder that if your child misses a School Assessed Coursework (SAC) they must get a medical certificate to enable them to sit the SAC in the next available IPT time slot. Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence. If there are extenuating circumstances please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.

Once a student has been approved for SAC redemption, they will be required to sit the SAC the next available time slot.

Attendance

It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised. If students have reached their limit for absences from class there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed.

Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon study periods, or after school.

Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have study periods, periods 1 + 2.

Absences on COMPASS

Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved.  You can do this through a signed note or you can approve your child’s absences via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.

You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.
