There are many activities and events going on around the school at this time of year; Science Week, Book Week, The Great Book Swap, students visiting the Tech school and the next round of Athletics is coming up.
Last week, was Science Week. There were a few activities running around the school and during Home Group. There was a Science quiz every day, where people got to try their knowledge in the hopes of winning a prize. Also there was a competition of who could name the most elements from the periodic table of elements in the shortest time possible.
This week is Book Week, where there is a fun activity running every day. “Find Your Treasure” is on, where you name the book you treasured the most to receive a prize. On Tuesday, there was the “Muppet Treasure Island” movie running in the Library.
The 'Great Book Swap' is an initiative to raise funds to buy books for remote indigenous schools and address the literacy gap in remote Australia. We have been collecting books since Term 1. Yesterday, all the books were available in the Library to be purchased for a gold coin donation.
And lastly, today there was a 'Scavenger Hunt' in the Library, where you take your clues to search for a reward.
Congratulations to all students who have made it through to the next round of Athletics, in either track or field to be held on September 4. We are sure you will all make us proud and we wish you all the best of luck.
Throughout the last two weeks, students have been going to the Yarra Valley Tech School at Box Hill Institute. Students have had the opportunity to create their own wearable technology using little bits, from creating something that can help a person, to something that can help you in sport; like an alarm clock that wakes you up nicely, to creating a heat and cooling shoe insole. Students got to work in teams of three to brainstorm ideas, then try to build the ideas, and the once created the devise, presented it in front of the class.
Zac Hoiles and Sophie Mastaing
On Tuesday 14 August, Ms Hudson's 9D English class went outside to the cherry blossom trees to practice some poetry and descriptive writing!
