PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE

2018 Premiers’ Reading Challenge

Read, read more, read more widely!

The closing date for our reading challenges is fast approaching.  Students need to log all of their reading by the end of the school day on, Monday 3 September.

CONGRATULATIONS to 52 Year 7 students who have now completed the Premiers’ Reading Challenge by reading 15 or more books.

WELL DONE to a further 35 Year 7s, who have completed the LHS Reading Challenge, by reading between 10 and 14 books.

Our Year 7 students have now logged a combined number of 2383 books they have finished reading!

During the reading challenges, a display in the Library shows the progression of each Year 7 class on a “book shelf”.  Every week, every book that is read, has a book coloured in on the bookshelf.  The Year 7s have enjoyed seeing their class’ progression when they come to the Library loans desk, to borrow and return books.

As always, students are welcome to visit the Library for assistance to log their reading for the challenges if required.

Find Your Treasure

Book Week 2018  - 18 to 24, August

Each year, schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors. Many libraries conduct activities relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading.

The theme for this year’s Book Week is, “Find Your Treasure”.  The theme is about finding your next great book to read.

The LHS Library hosted a number of activities during the week.  These included:

  • A progressive display, where students added to the display during the week by nominating a book title they treasure.
  • A scavenger / treasure hunt.
  • A “treasure” movie.
