End of Term 3

We made it! What a term it has been. Enjoy a well-deserved rest to all our students and families. Thank you for your adaptability during the changes to remote learning as we refine the program based on family feedback. We have enjoyed seeing students for their small group and whole class workshops in both languages for Literacy, Mathematics, Wellbeing, Inquiry and of course Fun Fiesta Fridays!

Adiós Serena!!!

Sadly our amazing Grade 3 student Serena is leaving NPS to move to Brazil with her family this week. We wish Serena the very best of luck on this new adventure and at her new school- they are lucky to have you! You have shown our Newlands school values and keystones in your learning both at school and online. We will miss you lots!!

Maths/Matemáticas

We are proud of the 2/3s in tackling multiplication and division while learning online. They showed us lots of strategies they can use to solve problems.

There was a lot of improvement in recognising important information in a Spanish worded problem, too!

Literacy/ Literatura

We have been working on historical recounts, which ties into our Inquiry subject, and the discussions in class have been exciting to witness. We were impressed with the creativity shown to draft, edit and revise recounts from the perspective of a child convict.

The children are learning to decode words in Spanish and are growing their lexicon.

Sierra acting out her convict recount with costumes and props- Go Sierra!
Maude's recount showing the past tense the "ed" ending and lots of editing!

Inquiry /Investigación

We have been focusing on Australian history over the past few weeks, learning about the colonisation of Australia, our convict history and the thousands of years that make up Australian Indigenous history as the oldest continuous culture on the planet. We also looked at the difference between migrants, immigrants and refugees and the many diverse reasons why people move to Australia to live . All 2/3 teachers found that students had engaging discussions about their families, who emigrated from lots of different places around the world! We enjoyed students sharing their family history and links across the world.
