School Council Report

Welcome back to term 4 from the School Council. With October being National Mental Health Month, we hope everyone is safe and well, and looking after their mental health and wellbeing.

At recent School Council meetings our key agenda items have included:

  • Engagement and communication, including the re-development of the School’s website
  • Uniform supplier transition and future planning
  • Buildings and grounds maintenance works
  • Review of 2021 NAPLAN results
  • Financial planning for 2022

One of the School Council’s key responsibilities is to participate in the development and monitoring of the School’s strategic plan. Our current strategic plan is based on three core goals which inform our strategic decision making and guide our actions:

  • To improve student achievement
  • To improve student engagement
  • To improve student wellbeing

A range of key improvement strategies and targets are aligned to these core goals, which we monitor through measurable performance indicators.

These indicators currently show us tracking positively against literacy improvement targets and demonstrate our improvement in providing a differentiated learning challenge and stimulating learning environment for our students, while showing concern for student wellbeing. They also show an improvement in respect for diversity.

Opportunities are highlighted in the indicators for us to further improve numeracy outcomes and to seek greater consistency in student experience and outcomes across all year levels. They also validate our focus on developing and enabling student voice and agency.

Further performance indicator data will become available to us in November and December which we will report on in the 2021 Annual Report (released in March 2022), to the school community.

About School Council

School Council participates in the development and monitoring of the school’s strategic plan and school policy, and plays an important role in overseeing the school’s financial operations and budget. School Council members are drawn from students, parents, Department of Education and the community. Chelt Sec’s School Council includes sub-committees in Student Services, Education Policy, Engagement and Communication, Building and Grounds, and Finance.
