House News & Club News

Their House, Your House, Our House

Cheltenham Secondary College opened it's doors for the first time to 4 Teaching staff and 4 Form groups in 1959 and by 1960, now with 18 staff and 10 form groups, the House System was established. There is a historical account of our college badge in the pictures below. The history of the who and how the house names were chosen is unclear but I would think that the inclusion of Indigenous Language was quite progressive at the time, something all of the Cheltenham community should be proud of.

CSC Houses and Indigenous translation
Our school badge was based on the design of the Coat of Arm of Cheltenham, Gloucesestershire, England after which our Cheltenham is named. The books represent England's famous Cheltenham schools. The scroll is in Latin
Red and Blue are swapped to signify the 'upside down' of the Southern Hemisphere, which allows for the Southern Cross to appear on blue background (Coat of Arms Victoria) Book to signify learning. Translation of the Latin scroll is Health & Learning

I would like to challenge our students to build on this particular part of Cheltenham Secondary College history, by designing an emblem to suit each house.

Consider the following

  • You can design one or all of the house emblems
  • You can use any design style you like. i.e. draw, paint, digital, sketch
  • Can a house be linked to a school value? Respect | Responsibility | Personal Best | Sense of Community

Any entries can be sent to Mrs. Hargreaves at har@cheltsec.vic.edu.au

Student Clubs

CSC would like to build a Clubs Program within the college, a co-curricular program enabling students to share their passions. We would like to offer our students opportunities to gather with friends or enjoy social time with like minded peers.

If you feel that there is a Club that you would like to create, lead or attend please fill in this form and Mrs. Hargreaves will work with you create a club of like minded people as well as supporting you with required resources.

I would like to register my interest about clubs at Chelt

Suggestions: diversity group, chess club, fundraising/charity group, music, art, drawing, knitting club, math club (not homework club), debate club, public speaking club, school magazine club, environment/garden club. Yoga group. All suggestions welcome

Is there a hobby that you have taken up in remote learning? perhaps you would like to explore this further and join with others to share ideas and projects.
