Please join me in welcoming Remy into our community and making her feel at home.

Term 4 Sports

Badminton

Senior badminton concluded last Saturday with their competition Gala day across three different venues. Clayfield entered 5 teams in the competition from Opens down to our 10B team. Congratulations to all girls on their performances, commitment, and enthusiasm across the season and during the Gala day with some great performances across the three venues. Well done to our Snr A team who finished 5th, our best place on the day, however, there were some very tight games where only a point separated the winner from the loser and gaining the valuable points for the win. Our Senior B team was not far behind in the 6th spot and 10A in the 7th. Our Opens, Snr C, and 10B teams played very well, however, the opposition teams on the day were just too strong this year. With the high interest and enthusiasm in badminton, I am sure that next year we will continue to improve our standard of play and rankings.

Our four junior teams will play in their Gala Day this Saturday across two different venues. We wish them well in their final training session this week and that they feel well prepared and ready for the competition. Full details of the competition schedule and venues can be found on the App.

AFL

On Wednesday afternoon a group of very keen and enthusiastic girls from Years 7 to 11 went along to the very first QGSSSA AFL training session. The afternoon was a rotation of six different stations where the girls were coached on the various skills and tactics of the game in fun-filled activities with highly qualified and motivated coaches from Queensland AFL. We have been fortunate enough to organise a 6-week program which will include 2 Gala Days for secondary students and 1 Gala Day for primary girls. We have also ensured that our Years 4 to 6 boys can be included in the skills session run at the College. Full details of the Introductory Program can be found on the College app and Croc Board.

Our junior softball girls are training hard in preparation for their short season which commences next week. The softball fixtures are played across 3 – 4 afternoons over two weeks with two games being played on each of the afternoons. Please note that the girls will be bused to Downey Park, but parents need to organise to collect your girls from the venue at the end of the games. Full details of the draw and game times can be found on the College app.

Sports Woman’s Awards Dinner

The annual Sports Woman’s Award Dinner will be held on Wednesday 17 November at Ruggers, 103 Crosby Rd, Albion in the Jacaranda Room. The timing for the event has changed slightly and will now run from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. The night is a wonderful recognition and celebration of excellence, commitment, and dedication to sport at Clayfield during the year. All girls and families involved in the QG Sporting Program in 2021 are warmly invited to attend. The awards will be a big feature of the night along with some amazing guest speakers, raffles, speeches, and a delicious 2-course meal. Full details will be released in the coming weeks, however, please mark this very important date into your calendar so you don’t miss out.

Volleyball Academy – Whole year program

A number of our Volleyball academy girls have had some great success in their junior PVL teams and the recent volleyball state championships.  Our girls’ teams took out Gold in the U17 and U19 PVL competitions and finished fourth at the recent State Championships. The Clayfield Volleyball Academy continues every Monday from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm in the PE Centre. Please see Ms. Barnes if you are keen to join in 2022 and to collect the paperwork. Any girls who choose to leave the program MUST send an email to confirm this or payments will still be added to your College fees.

Elite Sporting Program – Sports Specialist Series

Girls with Grit was the topic of the final sports specialist session for this year and was a great way to conclude the series, especially during Mental Health Week. Natasha Anderson gave our girls some practical tips for working the “muscles in their brains” to ensure the body performed as optimally as possible. The girls reflected on a time when their performance was the “BEST” in terms of how it felt and then explored techniques to take the brain back there regularly so that it could repeat the performance as their thinking and actions were in the same place as when they did it last time.

Our girls have been very fortunate to have some amazing speakers this year who covered a wide and very essential range of knowledge, tips, and techniques to help them achieve their sporting goals and dreams. The girls have now been asked to provide feedback about this year in preparation for next year and what they would like to be covered going forward. Parents, please have these conversations at home with your daughters and feel free to contact me to let me know what would be helpful for your daughter next year.

Student Achievements

Grace Webb has been invited to attend the next Building for Birmingham & Beyond Elite Gymnastics Squad training camp at the AIS, Canberra in December.

Before the school holidays, Lindsay Webb competed in a club competition at Delta against other clubs in the Delta Classic. She placed 1st overall for her 1st Level 8 competition with a 2nd on beam and bars and 3rd on floor and vault.

It is wonderful to be able to share student achievements with you, so if your daughter has achieved a significant result in her sport, please send through an email labelled “Student Achievements” to Ms. Christine Barnes so we can share and celebrate this achievement with the wider community.
