Dear Parents and Carers
Today we had a visit from the Assistant Regional Director, Darren Scott. It has been quite some time since he has made it to PBSS and he was blown away with what is happening – both in and out of the classroom! It’s wonderful to get the positive feedback from someone who is a supervisor across thirty schools across the south east region.
2022 STAFFING
As the end of the year is drawing to an end, I am currently finalising staffing for 2022 and other operational needs. This week our transfers in and out became finalised, and I am now in a position to be able to share this information with the school community.
IN TO PBSS – Amanda Saunders (from Surfers Paradise SS), Dimity Faulkner (from Gilston SS), Amy Hagen (Pimpama State Primary College), Kelly Smith (Miriam Vale SS), Piper Scott (Taabinga SS), Nicola Shepherd (Pacific Pines SS), Kate Koehler (Gaven SS).
LEAVING PBSS – Marie Gilhooley (Clover Hill SS), Tracey-Lee Howe (Mudgeeraba SS)
Additionally, Damien Theodore has decided to take on a big life change and head back to his home town in Victoria, and will therefore be finishing up at PBSS at the end of the year.
Staff will be informed of their 2022 year levels towards the end of term, and students will be told their 2022 teachers on Monday 6th December prior to the ‘Meet the Teacher’ session.
2022 LEADERSHIP MODEL
With a prediction of 800 students, 33 classes and 80 staff, 2022 will once again see growth in all areas of PBSS. As teaching and learning is our priority, and to ensure the consistency and effectiveness of this across the school, the following leadership model will be implemented in 2022.
Principal: Sandra Thompson
Deputy Principals: Megan Woodley & Tyson Upton
Curriculum Leader: Krystle Devine
Inclusive Education Leader: Robyn Martin
Special Education: Sheree Thomson
P-2 Teaching & Learning Leader: Rachel Murray
Yr 3-6 Teaching & Learning Leader: Kate Koehler
2022 SPECIALIST STAFFING
As a result of the QTU and EQ EB decisions, from 2022 all primary teaching staff across Queensland are to be provided to two and half hours non-contact time per week. This has obviously had a flow on effect to our overall staffing model and specialist required to accommodate this. When planning this new specialist model, many other factors were considered including providing the students with a quality program in each Learning Area, reducing the range of Learning Areas staff are expected to teach, assess and report on, whilst maintaining our Journey Group program and providing each year level with an hour per fortnight for focussed professional collaboration. As you can imagine timetabling for this is no easy feat and many, many hours of strategic planning have gone into this model.
The PBSS core 2022 specialist positions will include:
Physical Education Yrs 1-6 – Greg Locke – Prep PE TBA,
Music Yrs 1-6 – Lainie Carter – Prep Music TBA,
LOTE – Year 5 & 6 - Eiji Nishioka
The Arts (Dance, Drama, Visual Arts & Drama) Yrs 1-6 - TBA,
HASS Yrs 2-4 (History & Social Sciences) – Sue-Ellen Pinchin,
Technology/ Health P-6 – David Busch
PBSS garden program for Prep and Year 1 – Anna Bassi.
These specialists will teach, assess and report on their respective Learning Area. Classroom teachers will teach, assess & report on the following Learning Areas only:
Prep: English, Maths Science & HASS
Years 1-4: English, Maths & Science
Years 5 & 6: English, Maths, Science & HASS
P-12 CURRICULUM, ASSESSMENT and REPORTING FRAMEWORK (P-12 CARF)
All of the information above has been to enable PBSS to effectively enact the P–12 curriculum, assessment and reporting framework which specifies the curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements for all Queensland state schools’ principals and staff delivering the curriculum from Prep to Year 12. The P–12 curriculum, assessment and reporting framework includes a series of supporting attachments that elaborate on how schools enact the requirements to deliver a world-class education and improve the progress and academic achievement of every student in Prep to Year 12.
The P–12 curriculum, assessment and reporting framework reflects State Schools Improvement Strategy 2021–2025: Every student succeeding and is part of the commitment to providing a world-class education for all students. It is based on the assumption that every student can learn and that responding to the diverse learning needs of all students is central to teaching.

COVERED ROOF FOR THE BASKETBALL COURT
As the school continues to grow, and space becomes more and more of an issue, last week the P&C president Simone Tait and I had a brainstorming session about what would be our next major project for fundraising. As a result, Simone is currently receiving quotes for a high roof structure for the basketball court. This will be invaluable for wet days for PE and shade for the students! Stay tuned 😊
