Sustainability at St Raphael's

Sustainability in STEM

This term during STEM, our Year 5/6 students have been given the opportunity to spend some time in our Outdoor Learning Space.  Here students are encouraged to appreciate and care for all living things in our St Raphael's garden and reflect on their place in Our Common Home.

Here are some thoughts and images from our students.

WEEK 3 - 5/6V

"Oh Plants!  The thing that makes our planet great and we want to keep it that way. That's why we do sustainability!  So we can keep our school looking nice and make it look like we are a growing school."

WEEK 4 - 5/6W

"April, Madi and Katerini were chicken feeding and the chickens escaped.  Luckily with the help of all the students they got them.

Octavia, Veronica and Olivia were all sweeping the garden beds.

Olivia, Keeley and Zoe are pulling out weeds near the peas.

Alex, Riley and Ava C are all planting in lettuce with giant shovels.

The litter squad are having a good time.

Kiara, Olivia H and Charlotte are washing the sound garden playground."

Little green thumbs

It might be cold and wet outside but our youngest garden club members are still rolling up their sleeves and helping out in the garden.  We have continued weeding, harvesting and looking after our chooks in Garden Club this term.  Garden Club runs most Tuesdays and Thursdays during the first half of lunch.

Almost there.....

Back in Autumn Georgia, Sabine, Ariana and Grace from Year 1/2 planted some daffodil bulbs and we have been waiting patiently over Winter for them to emerge.  We are happy to report our daffodils have started to bloom confirming that Spring is just around the corner.
