Music Workshop Week

Monday 29th April - Friday 3rd May, 2019

Banyule Theatre, 10 Buckingham Drive, Heidelberg

Our annual music workshop days will be held in the second week of Term 2. These rehearsals are an important preparation for the upcoming Autumn Festival which includes the Autumn Brunch and Autumn Night concerts. Further details of these concerts are below:

 

Autumn Brunch Sunday 19th May 10am – 12.30pm (9.30am arrival) in the school gym. Performing ensembles: Junior Band, Intermediate Band, Concert Band and Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Stage and Funk Band, Junior and Intermediate Strings.

 

Autumn Night Thursday 16th May 7.30pm – 10pm (7pm arrival) at Viewbank College Performing Arts Centre. Performing ensembles: Junior Choir, Viewbank Voices and Chamber Choir, Intermediate and Senior Guitar ensembles, Senior Strings, Double Bass ensemble, Latin Band and Percussion Ensemble.

 

 

WORKSHOP'S TIMETABLE

*ALL WORKSHOPS WILL BE HELD AT BANYULE THEATRE

 

 

Workshop details:

Where:   Banyule Theatre Complex, 10 Buckingham Drive, Heidelberg.

Dress:    casual clothes.

Cost:      $15 which includes lunch and a drink. Payment and consent can be given on Compass.

 

  • Students are to bring their own music stand (labelled) as well as spare reeds, strings and sticks  as appropriate.  Students who need to use school instruments/equipment will need to discuss this with their ensemble director prior to the workshop.
  • Students will need to bring their own snacks but a pizza lunch, including a drink, will be provided.     PLEASE LIST ANY DIETARY REQUIREMENTS ON SLIP BELOW.
  • Students who are attending whole day workshops (9am – 3pm) will need to make their own way to and from the theatre.

**CONSENT MUST BE GIVEN ON COMPASS FOR STUDENTS TO ATTEND THESE MUSIC WORKSHOPS**

As instrumental music staff are involved in these workshops, regular music classes and ensemble rehearsals for some students will be affected.

Students should check their Compass schedules carefully.

 

Workshop Days for the ensembles listed above will run instead of the ensembles’ usual rehearsal for that week.

A.M.E.B (Australian Music Examination Board)

Any students wishing to enter for A.M.E.B exams should speak to their instrumental music teacher before enrolling. These external exams give students a goal to work towards and are an experience that enhances their playing/singing skills immensely. Enrolment forms are available from the Music Office. The relevant dates are as follows:

5th session: Wednesday 24 July                               Between 7 October – 17 November

Labelling student owned and hired instrument cases:

Please be aware that there are up to two hundred instruments in our instrument storerooms on any one day, so please ensure that all instrument cases are clearly named. School instruments that have been hired should have a green tag with the hirer’s name on it.

Friday 3 to Sunday 5 May Generations in Jazz Camp for Stage Band and Chamber Choir members.

Thursday 16 May Autumn Night 7.30pm: Performing Arts Centre– Junior Choir, Viewbank Voices, Chamber Choir, Intermediate & Senior Guitar Ensembles, Senior Strings, Flute Ensemble, Latin Band and Double Bass ensemble.

Sunday 19 May Autumn Brunch: School Gym – 10am-12.30pm

Junior, Intermediate, Concert & Symphonic Bands, Jazz, Stage and Funk bands, Junior and Intermediate Strings and Percussion Ensemble.
