New Staff

We have some new staff who have started with us in recent weeks.  We would like to welcome Ms Nicole Lewis and Ms Ana Miskovic who joins us in the Maths faculty.  We also have Ms Tracy Alexopoulos who has joined our student administration team in the general office casually.  These new members of staff have been with us for a couple of weeks and we wish them well as part of our community. 

Swimming carnival

On Tuesday 10 March, all Year 7 to 9 and selected Years 10 to 12 students, travelled to Oak Park Aquatic Centre for our annual swimming carnival.  Everyone, particularly those who made use of the giant waterslide during supervised free time, appreciated the lovely venue. There was enthusiastic participation in the swimming and novelty events, and a lot of house pride was on display.

It was a close competition to determine which house produced the best whole of house cheering and team support, and this accolade went to Rosewall House.   Well done to all participants, and to Irwin House for winning over all. Thanks to Mr Lakovski and his team for the organisation of this very successful event. 

Staff Professional Learning with Jane Pollock

This year, we are again working with Jane Pollock to assist our newest staff members to make the most effective use of the Instructional Learning Cycle (LATAR) we have embedded at St Albans Secondary College.  On Tuesday 17 March, Jane worked with our new staff to provide guidance and support around planning and implementing the cycle during lessons. The day was greatly appreciated by our new staff, who valued the experience and guidance of this well-respected educator.

Jane provided knowledge and support for using the LATAR cycle and gave concrete examples of how it can look for different classes and year levels.  Staff completed some peer observations, which were used as a catalyst for discussing different approaches. Jane has noted significant improvement in student engagement in every classroom over the many years she has been working with our teaching staff. This is something we continually work on, so it is pleasing that we are making noticeable change and that it is benefitting all of our students.
