Big Science Competition

Can you answer this question? If so, maybe you should enter the 2020 Big Science Competition.

Nano-particles are extremely small. They can pass through the holes in typical filters. Plant fibre can now be used to make nano-filters that remove these very small particles.

A substance is produced in the form of nano-particles. It is also produced as a single, large block. What is the difference between the same mass of the nano-particles and the block of material?

A. the density of the particles

B. the weight of material present

C. the total surface area present

D. the substance's chemical composition

All Year 7 and 8 students are invited to participate in the Big Science Competition on the 26th of May. It’s a 50 minute, multiple choice competition testing critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Questions are set in real-life, contemporary contexts, making them relatable and interesting. Entrants will all receive a certificate showing how they performed in comparison to their peers and may be invited to participate in other events, such as the Australian Science Olympiads. The cost to enter is $8.
