Nicky Winmar Event

On Friday the 7th of June, Mrs Anderson and I were lucky enough to attend a closed audience chat with Nicky Winmar. This event was organised  to mark the recent launch of St Kilda Football Club’s RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan).  Invitations were delivered to a small handful of Kingston’s indigenous community, making it an honour to attend. It was held at the Derrimut Weelam Gathering Place in Mordialloc, with around 40-50 people attending.

The event began with light refreshments and socialising amongst fellow indigenous community members, as we awaited the arrival of Nicky Winmar.

Upon his arrival, we introduced ourselves to Nicky and had the opportunity to hear his accounts of leaving the bush in Western Australia to play AFL football in Melbourne.

He also talked about the impact of his actions during and after his AFL career and his influence and role modelling for many indigenous Autsralians.

It was an inspiring night!
