St Mary’s Parish Prayer

God our Father, as we thank you for the blessings, we ask you to bless this Parish of yours, so that

we may love you more.

Encircle our families with your loving care.

Help parents to be good examples to their

children and our youth to grow in strength as good Christians.

To the sick grant health, to the aged bring serenity and to those in sorrow, joy.

May we grow stronger in faith and may

our love for one another become deeper

in our daily living.

We make this through the intercession of our Mother Mary.  Amen

Updated - Prayer of The Week

Your kingdom is at hand, O God of justice and peace; you made John the Baptist its herald to announce the coming of your Christ, who baptises with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Give us a spirit of repentance to make us worthy of the kingdom. Let complacency yield to conviction, that in our day justice will flourish and conflict give way to the peace you bestow in Christ. Amen

Updated - Looking at the Readings

The Future Tense exists in all classical and modern languages and today it is found in all the Scripture Readings, Psalm Response and Gospel Acclamation in the Lectionary for the Second Sunday of Advent. We cannot escape the future! “We cannot change the future, we can only create the future.” (A quote from Doctor Who)

Isaiah prophesises of a future of wisdom and integrity, peaceful and glorious times. The Vision of Peace and Harmony among all creation is like a dream. But when we wake up from the dream we find that wisdom and peace have not yet been fully established. Yet that vision “Shall stand as signal for the peoples.” (Is 11:10) and “Justice shall flourish in his time and fullness of peace forever.” (Response Ps 71:7)

John the Baptist, who encourages people to convert and warns protesters of impeding retribution, spoke of a future time when the Messiah will baptise with the Holy Spirit and Fire; the wheat will be gathered up and the chaff will burn in a fire that will never go out. (Matt 3:12)

We face the dialectic or dilemma of the mystery of Advent: The future is already here but has not yet arrived. And we celebrate this mystery with Hope, Love, Peace and Joy.

NEW - Advent

Advent comes from the Latin word meaning "coming." Jesus is coming, and Advent is

intended to be a season of preparation for His arrival.

While we typically regard Advent

as a joyous season, it is also intended to be a period of preparation, much like Lent.

Prayer, penance and fasting are

 appropriate during this season.
