Orientation Day

Orientation Day took part yesterday and the children spent some time in their classes for 2020. It was a very exciting time for everyone and  it was great to see our new Prep children for next year so excited about coming to school.  Well done to our Gr 6 students who spent yesterday at their respective High Schools.

End of Year Mass

Our End of Year Mass is taking place this Friday at 9:30am in the Marian Centre.  At the conclusion of the Mass we will have a special farewell for departing families and staff members.  We also have a special acknowledgement of our Gr 6 students, staff and families who are leaving St Mary's at the end of this year.  All family members are invited to attend the mass.

Please note that school resumes for students on Wednesday 29th January 2020.

NDC Awards

I was thrilled to see so many ex St Mary's students receive awards at the Notre Dame Presentation night last week.  Well over 20 of our students won awards and the the following received significant acknowledgements:

Angus Shanahan (Dux Yr 7), Dom Gugliotti (VCAL Achievement), Sophie Dowell (Yr 8 Mary Halpin Award), Christian Nardella (Yr 12 Musical Excellence), Sarah Anderson (Yr 12 Performing Arts), Mason Crosier (Yr 10 Mercy Award), Joss Church (Yr 8 Sporting Excellence), Xavier Russell (Yr 11 Sporting Excellence), Bailey Whittaker (Yr 12 Leadership & Teamwork) and Jack Woodyard (Yr 11 Vocational Scholarship).

Congratulations to them all.  What a wonderful reflection of St Mary's!

School Board

Please find below, the results from our Parent Survey for 2019.  I am very pleased with the level of satisfaction among our parent body and we will continue to look for areas of improvement that arise from the results.  Thank you for such a large response to the survey.

Support For Regulating Emotions 

The CASEA Program is an early intervention service for young children (focusing mainly on children in Prep to Year 3) with challenging behaviours and difficulties in regulating emotions.  If you would like your child to take part in the program or have any questions please contact me at school.  See flyer below:

Swimming Safety

Our Gr 3-6 students took part in swimming safety lessons on Monday.  We schedule these sessions deliberately at the beginning of the swimming season and encourage all parents to discuss the importance of being safe in and around water with their children.

ICan Network

ICan is an organisation who facilitate programs for children on the Autism spectrum or children with learning differences or anxiety.  There will be a program running from St Mel's school in 2020 that some of our families may be interested in.  Please read the attached brochure and contact me if you are interested.

Gr 6 Scholarship Opportunity

Each year Rotary award the Graeme Cross Memorial Scholarship to an outstanding Gr 6 student. See document below for application details.

End of Year Picnic and Christmas Concert

This will be taking place on the John Gray oval again this year and we are looking forward to another great night!  Families are welcome to bring along their own picnic chairs and food, however chicken burgers, hamburgers and drinks will also be available from the food van.

Principals Award

Week 8 Georgia Dalby.  

Georgia is a highly valued member of the 5/6 area which is due to her positive  and determined attitude.  Her endearing personality and happy nature are infectious makes people want to be around her and has a calming influence on others. Well done Georgia!

 

Week 9 Josef Challis.

Josef has amazing verbal communication skills

and likes to share his wonderful knowledge of world history.  Josef is fantastic at technology and has a wonderful sense of humour.  Josef is genuinely loved by his classmates and staff for his beautiful nature and fun loving demeanour.  We will all miss him at St Mary's next year.
