Celebration of the Arts 2020

As most of you know, the highpoint of our school year normally comes with our annual 'Celebration of the Arts' evening in October.

On this night, the students share musical, dance and dramatic performances and display their artwork on a chosen theme - last year's 'Dance Macabre' (see above) was particularly memorable. The event is the culmination of months of work and planning by our Arts team of Chantel Jose and Stephen Stanisic and perfectly sums up eveything that is so great about SKiPPS.

Sadly I have to report that there will be no Celebration of the Arts this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Over the last few months, we have tried to reimagine how a 'socially distanced' or digital COTA could work but, ultimately, with no students onsite and in their Visual and Performing Arts classes until term 4, even this became impossible to make happen.

I know how disappointing this news is to everyone, particularly our students who have already missed out on so much this year. We have pencilled in the evening of Wednesday 16th December for an alternative community event - a potential end of year/Christmas concert on the oval and will cross our fingers that this might be a possibility. In terms of COTA, we are committed to bouncing back in 2021 with a bang.

Other events

With the confirmation that we will almost certainly not be back at school until next term, we have also had to cancel or postpone some other wonderful Term 3 SKiPPS events;

  • Our swimming program, due to take place at MSAC this term, will now be cancelled.
  • Our annual Walkathon, due to take place in September, has now been pushed back until Term 4.
  • School individual and class photos have now been postponed again and we really hope these can go ahead in Term 4 to provide a memento of such a 'memorable' year
  • Whilst our annual Footy Colours Day can't go ahead as planned, we are exploring how we can make the last day of Term a 'virtual' opportunity to barrack for our favourite teams.

Looking ahead to Term 4, we still hope that events such as our Year 3/4 Camp, Dad's Camp, the Parent Trivia Night and Year 6 Graduation and leaver's assembly can still proceed as planned. We will keep you updated on developments in these areas.
