Year 5/6

Year 5/6 Term Three 2020

Welcome back to the start of Term Three! We are looking forward to applying everything we learned about remote learning last term as we seek to promote effective learning from home once again.

Religious Education

Students will be exploring different faiths around the world, particularly those found in Europe. They will also continue on their own faith journey and make connections to the place of sacraments and scripture in their lives. We will explore the Sacrament of Confirmation and the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

English

This term, the senior students will look to develop their reading, speaking and listening and writing skills through a variety of activities. Our literacy rotation activities will continue this term to develop student reading and reflection skills. In writing, students will explore debating and the persuasive skills required to participate in a debate. Following this, students will use the structure of an information report to provide information on a country they will be researching in their Inquiry Learning.

Maths

The following curriculum topics will be taught this term:

  • Number and Algebra: Multiplication and division
  • Number & Algebra: Fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Measurement & Geometry: Time

Health & PE

This term students will partake in a variety of physical activities that they can do at home. These can be found on our home learning site. It’s really important that students continue to have opportunities to be physically active during this time.

Inquiry

Our second term inquiry unit titled “BELONGING in the world.” It will have a strong geography focus where students will be investigating countries in Europe. They will choose a particular European country to investigate, researching the culture and defining characteristics of their chosen nation.

Social Emotional Learning

This term in SEL our 5/6 students will suggest and identify coping strategies in stressful events and identifying stress management strategies that they can use. Following this, we will be exploring gender and identity and how social influences affect how we interpret gender differences.

Communication

Effective communication between family and school is an important factor in a student's learning. Please make contact with us if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
