Seasons for Growth

Seasons for Growth is a fun and creative program that helps children to understand and work through grief, loss and change in a supportive peer group setting. Tina Mouzakitis (Wellbeing Coordinator) and I are currently running the Seasons for Growth course at the school each Tuesday. We have three groups running, aged from year 1 - year 7.

Drawing on the wide variation in our seasons here in Adelaide, the metaphor speaks of the 'ups' and 'downs' of life. The children come to a deeper understanding of their experience of grief and loss as they recognise that: no season lasts forever; each season is unique and important for our growth; each season has its own story - there are easy days and difficult days; seasons are unpredictable; individuals experience the seasons differently; people find different ways to adapt to changes within each season; and seasonal change is often silent, gradual and unseen. Children learn how to recognise and adapt to stressful events and changed circumstances, as well as the ongoing challenges these may bring.
