These eight wonderful students will be formally inducted into their roles later this term. To receive this recognition from their peers and the staff of the school is a strong affirmation of the leadership skills, the integrity they hold, and recognition of their position as role models in our school community. Over the coming twelve months they have a challenging task ahead, and I know that they will apply themselves with dedication to the representation of the student body and of our school.

Central Coast Education Awards

The Central Coast Education Awards are held each year to recognise staff and community persons contribution to education. The event is generally held as a whole Central Coast event however this year due to restrictions this has not been the case. This morning awards were presented to our very deserving 2020 award recipients; Janelle Wilkinson, Alex Karanicolaou & Wayne Viset. Henry Kendall High School and the Department of Education thanks you for your commitment to Public Education.

Max Potential Program

The Max Potential Program, connects school students within the local community and trained community coaches to enhance personal leadership. In the program, participants engage in one on one coaching sessions, experiential workshops and delivering a community service proposal to make a difference in the local community. This year's program has been very different as COVID-19 has drastically changed how it has been delivered.

My Community Service Proposal looks toward helping to rebuild the community after COVID-19 by giving assess to a sport where people can enjoy the game of lawn bowls. “Lawn Bowls for All” aims to introduce the sport to a wider audience, by focusing on all ages, all abilities and all cultures.  This will create a more interconnected local community forming new friendships that last a lifetime.  “Lawn bowls is the game that takes a second to learn, but a lifetime to master.” It is a sport that connects people within the community and is a safe place to go and enjoy time with friends and family. Bowls can be played competitively or socially and in many different formats; singles, pairs, triples and fours. Gosford City Bowling Club is supporting this initiative with the backing of our school.

The long term goal for this initiative is to introduce lawn bowls as a Tuesday afternoon sport option as it is in close proximity to our school, promotes good physical exercise and encourages social interaction between people including interacting with senior members of the local community.

If you are interested in gaining more information or would like to see the initiative develop into the future please see the contact details.

Year 11

Dungeons and Dragons Club

Throughout 2020 our school has held a Dungeons and Dragons club every Thursday evening from 3.10pm - 5.00pm. This club consists of 23 students from Years 7-11 who all work together to overcome various challenges.

For any of you who don't quite know or are unfamiliar with Dungeons and Dragons, it is essentially a fantasy role-playing game set in an imaginary world loosely based on medieval myth from many different cultures. For many people Dungeons and Dragons is considered to be the most engaging and exciting game because of its play-style. There is no screens, no controllers, no isolation in a dark room, but rather pen and paper surrounded by like minded fantasy enthusiasts. It gives players the opportunity to practice and hone a variety of real world skills including communication, critical thinking, cooperation and most importantly, imagination.

Our school based club is known as the Bellbird Adventures Guild (named after the famous poem 'Bell Birds' by local poet Henry Kendall). Our adventuring parties have survived ambushes from goblins, infiltrated enemy hideouts, negotiated with terrifying monsters, utilised their detective skills and have even slayed a dragon.

We have all been having a great time and have many journeys still await us. Term 4 will see out Year 11 adventures moving on to the even more challenging experience, Year 12. With this, we will have more openings for any new adventurers wishing to accompany the Bellbird Adventures Guild. If any students in Years 7-11 are interested please come and see Mr Herring Jr in the HSIE/Middle School Staff Room at anytime.
