Year Advisers Reports

Years 11, 9 and 7

Year 11 Report

Term 3 is rushing through very quickly and despite all of the limitations on activities, Year 11 students have been busy. They are currently working hard to complete their course work and assessment tasks in preparation for their yearly exams.

Some students and parents have discussed patterns of study for the HSC and I would advise all students to concentrate on successfully completing all of their courses, then consider any changes after final results have been received. There will be an interview process whereby students can discuss their options with a member of the executive staff and receive guidance on their best path for the final year of school.

I would like to congratulate all of the Year 11 students who participated in the selection process for School Captain, Vice Captains and Prefects. The students did an outstanding job of completing applications, preparing for their interview and conducting speeches in front of their peers and staff. The quality of candidates was very high; the students who were successful were very deserving and will do a fantastic job of representing not only the school but their peers as well.

Some of the applicants had leadership practice running the inaugural House Cup. The House Captains – Clare Norris, Bridie Lennon, David Hong, Brandon Willmette, Jamie Renton, Eloise Check and Mackenzie Waterhouse. The students organised and ran a variety sports for the junior school for a sport afternoon, which was a great experience for them.

Looking forward, all Year 12 courses will commence in the first few weeks of Term 4. To get us off to a flying start Year 11 have a school camp which will be a great bonding experience as well as an opportunity to complete mandatory PDHPE content. At this stage it is going ahead so fingers crossed nothing changes as it is a great camp which all Year 11 students thoroughly enjoy. More information will be forthcoming from Mr Wright who is the camp organiser.

Year 9

Year 9 have had a fantastic start to Term 3. All students are engaged with their learning and some are completing some incredible projects in their elective classes.

We are currently in the process of selecting new SRC representatives for Year 9. The process was a little different this year. Students had to fill out an application form explaining why they would be a good candidate, they then have to present a speech to their year group and then complete an interview with a student representative, their Year Adviser, the SRC coordinator and an Executive member. This process gives students experience with the job interview process and also allows students who are wanting to go into leadership roles in the future to start being involved within the school in their junior years. We had some great candidates apply this year and we are looking forward to finding out who has been selected.

Year 9 200hr iSTEM students have recently been participating in a program called P-Tech. P-tech is a program supported by the Australian Government that equips our students with skills for the 21st Century workforce.

It also allows connections to be made between industry leaders, the school and the students, to create a seamless pathway from school to work. The 26 students completed the launch program in Week 3 and they had their first mentoring session this week. The students represented Henry Kendall High School to a high standard. They all spoke very highly of the program and the feedback they gave was very positive. They will complete their second mentoring session in September, which they are all looking forward too.

Henry Kendall High School has also gone through the process of adding some new items to the uniform collection. We now have 2 new jackets, black trackpants, girls black tailored shorts and pants. We have had some students wearing the new uniform items and they all look great!

Year 9 have been doing some great things and their involvement in school activities has been fabulous.

Keep up the fantastic work Year 9!

Year 7

It is hard to believe we  are already into the second half of the year, and I would like to congratulate Year 7 on how they have settled back into the routine of school this term after a very mixed up first half of the year. I enjoyed reading all the positive comments on their reports at the end of last term and to see how many students were engaging both in class and online. A reminder to all students to read through their teachers comments and take on any suggestions to help them improve in their studies.

Although many events have been cancelled this year, there are some days coming up to look forward to including the High Resolves on Wednesday 26 and Friday 28 August, the School Athletics Carnival on Thursday 3 September, and at present Ms Cortaville-Smith and I are planning a Welfare/Careers day for Term 4 – more information will be sent out soon.

Even though at present there are limitations on the different activities we can provide students, it has been great to see Year 7 taking on extra curricula experiences including music and sport. It is wonderful to not only see students enjoying these experiences but other students supporting their peers. Have a look on our school Facebook page to see some photos and videos to see what our students have been up to.

Lastly, as always, remember:

“In a world where you
can be anything, be kind!”
