College Sport

We are excited to be returning to competition sport this term, and have teams ready to go for upcoming rosters in both Primary and Secondary competitions.  In line with the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) Framework for safe return to sport, COVID-19 plans are in place for all our competitions.  A summary for each sport is on the College website, along with links to relevant information from other schools relating to their home venues.

Hockey

On Saturday morning, we will have two teams competing in the Hockey Tasmania Primary competition at Cornelian Bay. A team of Year 1/2 students are playing quarter field and our experienced Year 3 group will step up to half field.

In the Secondary roster, Mount Carmel will be represented by a group of students from Years 7-9 in the Division 2 Girl’s competition, commencing on Friday 14 August at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre.  Good luck to all competitors.

Basketball

Next week the Secondary Basketball rosters commence, with Mount Carmel fielding a team in the Year 7, Year 8 and Year 10 rosters.

The following week, the much anticipated JSSATIS Basketball Roster will commence, with two Year 3/4 teams and a two Year 5/6 teams hitting the court.  Training commenced this week, with Primary teams fortunate to have Anthony Stewart from The Chargers coming in to take some sessions.

Secondary Athletics

Although the Mount Carmel Athletics Carnival was cancelled last term, planning is still underway for interschool events.  The calendar currently indicates Secondary carnivals on Tuesday 8 September (SSATIS) and Saturday 19 September (SATIS).

With current restrictions on gatherings to be no more than 500 people, modifications will need to be made to undertake these events.  Information will go out as soon as a decision has been made on the format and confirmation of dates.  Students interested in participating in Athletics will then be invited to training sessions on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7am – 8am at the Domain Athletics Centre and a trial event to confirm the team.
