House Events

House Band rehearsals kicked off last week with a mega-rehearsal in the Music Rooms. Each House has chosen a song to fit with the theme of ‘Here is Home’. All three groups made a strong start. The performance will be held on Thursday 20 August at lunchtime. The esteemed judges will be the members of emerging band ‘Kudu Joy’, led by our very own Sabine Bester. If we’re lucky they will perform a couple of numbers at the concert.

House Drama rehearsals also kicked off last week. One of the Year 9/10 Drama classes prepared the groundwork for the one-act plays for each House. Senior students began to flesh the original ideas out with all participants at the first session last Friday. Excitement was high and creativity was flowing. Mrs Stevens has set this up to be a great year for House Drama. The performances will occur in the final week of Term Three.

These events will be streamed live to the Mount Carmel College Facebook page, so stay tuned for more details.

Music Tuition

Students can begin learning an instrument at any year level at Mount Carmel. We have excellent, experienced teachers of all instruments. Many students take an interest in an instrument through the classroom program, where they learn in a self-directed manner with guidance from teachers. Taking individual lessons or small group lessons is a good next step for their musical progress.

Ceilidh Band

Our Ceilidh Band (pronounced Kaylee) has been up and running since earlier this year. Led by Luke Plumb, this group is learning the art of ‘sessioning’ - where musicians sit in a circle and play traditional tunes, in this case, Irish, that are in a common repertoire or learn tunes by listening and having a go. These students are learning a lot and playing some great music already.

All students with some previous experience on an instrument are welcome to join. ‘Sessions’ are on Mondays at lunchtime in the Music Room.
