From the Director of Primary

It is wonderful to be back at school with the students enjoying a range of learning opportunities during the past fortnight.  Integrated inquiry units will be a major focus this term.    Our goal is to foster links between the learning areas and the general capabilities so that learning is meaningful and relevant for students.

During the past fortnight, the students in Year 5 White were fortunate enough to spend some time in the Science Lab with Mrs Woodward. It was an exciting lesson where the girls examined some preserved specimens and recorded their observations using scientific drawing and annotations. Then they pretended to be zoologists and shared their findings with the rest of the class.

Learn to Swim Program

With the COVID-19 restrictions easing, it is pleasing to announce that the Learn to Swim program will proceed this term.  The program will be held at the Collegiate Pool with permission letters outlining all details to be issued next week.

The dates that students will be participating in the program are:

  • Years 1, 2, 4 & 6: Monday 31st August – Friday 4th September
  • Prep, Years 3 & 5: Monday 21st September – Friday 25th September

Learning for Life: Tuesday Mornings 9:30 – 10:45am

Last Tuesday also saw the return of the Learning for Life program for 0 – 5 year olds, their parents or carers.  The Learning for Life program is housed in our Kindergarten centre and is designed to offer parents practical support and insight into play-based learning, to build connections between families and young children and to support each child to begin their individual learning journey.

The program is filled with play-based learning experiences, exploration and storytelling. The weekly sessions include gross motor, fine motor, sensory, imaginative experiences, as well as activities including song and dance, story-time, art, craft, drama and movement, outdoor play, bikes, ball games, themed sessions and water play activities.

Bookings may be made through the College website or by calling the College Office.

Mid-Year Reports

Mid-Year Reports will be released to parents and students via SEQTA Engage on August 27 for students from Prep to Year 10.

Learning Conferences will be held on Thursday September 3 and Tuesday September 8.

Reports will not be issued for Kindergarten students, instead parents will have an opportunity to meet with Mrs Karen Giudici.  Details about Kinder Learning Conferences have been sent to parents and carers.

Times: 2.00pm – 6.00pm.

Mount Carmel Day

Tomorrow the staff and students are looking forward to celebrating Mount Carmel Day.  All students are to wear their full sports uniform to school.

The College will gather in the morning to celebrate Mass together. Primary students will enjoy house based activities and a dance party with their buddy class during the day.

Each class has been asked to dress up according to a theme as outlined below:

Prep: Accessories

Year 1: Hats, Masks and Socks

Year 2: Teddy Bear Picnic

Year 3: 70s

Year 4: PJs

Year 5 Navy: 80s

Year 5 White: Bright Colours

Year 6 Navy: 80s

Year 6 White: 90s

In conclusion, I would like to share the beautiful HEARTS of GRATITUDE display that the Year 6 Leaders facilitated at the conclusion of last term.  Without question we are incredibly blessed to be living in our beautiful island state while the situation in Victoria and New South Wales continues to escalate.

Gracious God,

We give thanks anew for your providence and presence.

We prayerfully seek your grace, amidst COVID-19 here and overseas.

We pray for those in need of healing.

We pray for your peace with those who are anxious or grieving.

We pray you will continue to strengthen and sustain

all those who are serving in response.

We pray for your Holy Spirit’s discernment

amidst the many choices and decisions

facing our national, community and medical leaders.

We pray we each might see quickly what more we can do

to help those who are vulnerable.

This prayer for our nation in the family of nations,

with all that is on our hearts,

we gather now and pray

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
