Buddy Classes

Coding is Fun!

On Wednesday 11 March, prior to social distancing requirements, the students in Year 3 and Year 5 White came together to start training for space travel. Yes, you read right!

Our Buddy Class program matches an upper primary class with a lower primary class and the students spend time together doing special activities. Some classes play games outside, some read to each other, some complete art projects together, but the main focus is for the students to get to know one another and form friendships. The younger students enjoy the attention the older students give them, and the older students get to take a trip down memory lane while gaining the satisfaction of helping others.

In 2020, the students in Years 3 and 5 White will focus on digital technology activities, or STEM as it is commonly referred to. To kick off their learning, they explored the world of coding and learned that it is a very important part of the NASA program, particularly the Mars Rover. Together the girls played a Mars Rover board game using coding, and then used their knowledge to drive an online rover simulator. It did not take long for the girls to break Mrs Doust's high score of 1200.

The students are looking forward to regrouping and continuing with fun digital technology activities when classes return to normal practice.
