Music News

With large ensemble rehearsals cancelled and increasing numbers of students staying home due to the COVID-19 crisis, we are exploring ways to keep the artistic life of the Secondary School going.

Plans are afoot for virtual choirs and orchestras, digital art making, remote rehearsals for theatre works and many more. These will take time to set up, so stay tuned for opportunities for our students to collaborate and create art, dance, drama and music in both curricular and co-curricular contexts over the coming weeks and months.

Music Tuition

As we look to move to distance education to help slow the spread of COVID-19, it is still possible for your child to develop their musical skills and enjoy engaging in music.  Keeping up your child’s instrumental or voice lessons will prove beneficial during this period of time. They will have something to work towards with the time to practice and opportunity to make good progress. When they return to school they will not fall behind.

Our Music teachers will begin teaching online from next week. This will be face-to-face lesson.  Your teacher will contact you to set up a lesson time and you will have the opportunity to discuss what you wish to do and what is involved.

Secondary students who remain at the College next week, will be able to use the small teaching rooms which have a computer and connect to their teacher from there. It is best to discuss with your teacher what is needed e.g. earphones. Their lesson time may not change but there could be a need to make adjustments.

Primary students need adult assistance for the online lesson and so your teacher will arrange a new lesson time with you when it is possible for some parent assistance.

I would recommend moving to online lessons so that you child can still have the benefits of individual focussed instrumental music education.  Music is good for the mind and the soul. At this time having goals and working towards them and keeping connected to teachers will be even more important.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
