Year 7 Team Teaching

The team teaching initiative which has been implemented in the Year 7 classes is proving very effective, benefiting our students in diverse ways and supporting their transition to high school. The initiative consists of teaching pairs that jointly prepare and deliver lessons in Humanities (HSIE and English), STEM (Maths and Science), and opportunities in other areas such as PDHPE and Visual Art.

The teaching teams collaboratively prepare their lessons by drawing on each other’s skills, knowledge and experience to deliver high quality lessons that focus on student engagement and optimal learning.

There are diverse and significant advantages to the team teaching initiative. For example, one of the teachers is able to move around the class to support and extend students whilst their teaching partner continues to deliver the lesson to the overall class.

Collaboration in learning has long proven a key element in student learning success. With combined classes, students are encouraged to develop connections with other students across both class groups. This benefits them in their playground and social interactions, and also provides a scaffold towards extended and broader learning.

The transition from primary to high school is traditionally a time of upheaval and significant adjustment. The co-teaching scheme reduces the number of classes that students need to rotate between, thereby providing greater stability and continuity to their school day.

Year 7 Humanities

Year 7 has been studying Ancient Greece this term in their Humanities classes. As a celebration of the unit of work, students completed an assessment task that required knowledge of Ancient Greece combined with an imaginative twist of their own. As part of the task, students were required to:

design and create an artifact that came from Ancient Greece;
compile a narrative of approximately 400-600 words as to why their artifact was important in Ancient Greece;
formulate a museum display card to accompany the artifact;
provide a self-reflection on their progress throughout the completion of their task.

These are an assortment of the magnificent ideas and artifacts that were submitted ....

We congratulate all students on their engagement in the task and the many high quality stories and artifacts.

Year 7 Animal Husbandry

This term, the Year 7 Animal Husbandry class has been busy studying 'Bees and Beekeeping'!

For their assessment task, the class has been working on converting little wooden bird houses into pollinator hotels to support the local population of native Australian bees around ASC. They have been working hard for the last 3 weeks in conjunction with our Art and Woodwork Department.

Our students should be immensely proud of the fantastic job they have done in making their colourful creations!

Ancient Greece with 7M & 7R

The ASC Gymnasium was the scene of a round-robin Mini-Olympics involving the 7M and 7R classes as part of their study of Ancient Greece. Students participated in a variety of sports-derived activities -- great fun for all!
