Principal's Message

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

There is only one more day of home-learning for our Prep - Year 2 students. We are certainly looking forward to having them return next week. I hope they are all looking forward to returning to school to see their teachers and school friends once again.

We also look forward to our Year 3- 6 students joining us on Tuesday 9th June.

I would ask that families refer to the Flexibuzz that was sent out yesterday. This communication detailed the processes for drop-off and pick-up of students, start and finish times for the school day, hygiene practices and accessibility restraints for parents.

In regards to the pick-up process at the end of the day. Parents will need to ensure they have informed their child of the pick-up location at the end of the day.

A reminder that next Monday 25th May is a pupil-free day. Supervision of students at school  will not be available on this day. As teachers will be in meetings through the day there will be no Google Meets for the 5/6 students on Monday. The next 5/6 Meets will take place on Wednesday 27th May.

The directive to have the least amount of adults on-site as possible certainly does not reflect the wonderful community here at COHR. I do hope that parents do not take offense to the way in which we restrict parent access.

Our staff will also be challenged by social distancing while on-site. We have arranged two separate staff rooms to avoid congestion at recess and lunch breaks.

Please be assured that we are doing our very best to ensure we are keeping all members of our school community as safe as practically possible.

Cake Raffle

Thank you to the families who have made a cake for our weekly cake raffle. The winning families have been very appreciative.

We have another cake maker for next week but are looking for cakes for the weeks following. If you would like to make a cake over the next few weeks, please contact the office. We would be very grateful for your support.

School Tours -Enrolments 2021

Given the recent shut down we were unable to hold our Open Days for prospective parents.

We would now like to offer tours of the school to any new families looking to enrol their child at Christ Our Holy Redeemer in 2021. Social distancing will need to be maintained throughout the tour. If you are aware of any neighbours or friends who are looking to enrol their child at COHR in 2021 please invite them to contact the office to make an appointment to meet.

Parents Association

Last night the Parents Association met via a Google Meet. Unfortunately the large majority of events and fundraisers have had to be cancelled for the remainder of the term.

The PA will be organising a Wellbeing hamper that will be offered as a free raffle at the end of the term.

We are also in the process of arranging a personalised COHR tea towel to go on sale in Term 3. More details to follow.

Upcoming Events

Due to our social restrictions there will be many gatherings and social events that need to be cancelled. Two major COHR events that will need to cancelled this year are the Grandparents Day and our Art Show. We will endeavor to look at alternative ways to acknowledge and celebrate these events in our community.

Sacramental Program

At this stage we do not believe we will be proceeding with any of our key Sacraments this year. We will keep you updated as more information is given to us.

Our Religious Education program will continue to include developing our students understanding of these most special times in their faith journey.

2020 School Review

Every four years schools in our Catholic school system undergo a school review. These reviews allow schools time to reflect on school practices in the following spheres;

  • Education in Faith
  • teaching and Learning
  • Leadership and management
  • School Community
  • Student Wellbeing

Our staff is currently working through a process of self-reflection with staff from Catholic Education Melbourne. Following this reflection we will set goals and learning outcomes for the coming four years 2021-2024.

As part of the review process we will also be asked to submit evidence to support our school registration in line with the requirements of the VRQA (Victorian Registrations and Qualifications Authority.
