COVID – Fitness Workouts

As restrictions have continued for Term 2 the type of physical activity that students have undertaken has been very different to the normal PDHPE practical programs. Students have engaged in a range of fitness workouts, body strength challenges, small sided volleyball/newcombe ball games. Students have developed their individual fitness during this time and hopefully set some exercise goals for the remainder of 2020. Students have received Henry Heroes and Olympics Unleashed Awards for their efforts.

Year 7 Handball Tournament

During the last four weeks of Term 2 the House Captains have been organising fun lunchtime competitions for each year group. In week 7 the house captains organised a Handball Tournament. With over 40 competitors the final came down to Timi Sullivan and Matthew Hodgkins to decide who was the best handballer in Year 7. Timi Sullivan ran out a 25 - 13 winner. Both boys demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship throughout the tournament and received canteen vouchers and exercise towel and Brisbane Water Zone T Shirt. Well done to all students that participated.

Olympics Unleashed – Year 8 YAP

On Thursday students in our Year 8 YAP PDHPE class had the opportunity to take part in a live video presentation with Rohan Browning via Microsoft Teams. Rohan is an Olympic and Commonwealth games athlete for Australia and currently holds the record for the fastest person in Australia and the third fastest Australian in History with a time of 10.08 seconds.

Students had the opportunity to listen to a 30-minute presentation by Rohan about the challenges he has faced in his career and the resilience he had to show to overcome these issues. Rohan used part of his presentation to focus on goal setting with the students via a goal setting card and brain breaks to keep the students engaged.

Rohan’s motivational presentation was highlighted by the manner in which he discusses his career highlights and short comings. This was noticed by the students with feedback such as, “I thought it was motivational, not because of what he was saying just the way he worded it”, “I enjoyed it. He gave me motivation especially during these tough times!” and “I really enjoyed it, it was very motivational and inspired me to think more about my goals.”

It is safe to say the students thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and it is something which they can focus their attention to in the coming weeks.

Here is just a sample of the units of work that student across Stage 4 and 5 PDHPE have been learning about.

Looking Forward to Term 3

As we come to the end of Term 2 we are looking forward to a well-deserved break as well as planning for Term 3 Sports Program and hopefully an Athletics Carnival in Term 3.
