English News

It’s safe to say that this term has been one of the most unusual in recent memory. The English faculty would like to commend all students on their ability to adapt to changing circumstances over the past few months.

Year 8 students have been busy completing their ‘Coming of Age’ unit.

The final task for this topic is an essay, and Year 8 teachers have been impressed with their progress for this task. Year 9 students have been spending the term reading, appreciating and analysing empowering poetry from a range of contexts and eras. Students have been refining their analytical skills and have impressed their teachers with their evaluative extended responses.

Our Year 10 classes have been exploring Shakespeare’s Macbeth. There’s been many animated discussions as to how and why key themes from the play are still relevant today.

Year 11 and Year 12 students have remained dedicated and engaged in their respective topics. Our senior students are encouraged to reflect and revise on their learning throughout the year as they prepare for their exams next term.

Maths News

The Mathematics Faculty would like to express our thanks to all Henry Kendall students who navigated their way through a very difficult period without face-to-face access to their teachers. We are all impressed at the way you adapted to the different style of learning and found ways to solve problems. We are well aware that students had to overcome many challenges throughout this period, and we could not be more proud of the commitment of the students. The level of engagement was fantastic and it was clear that students at Henry Kendall really value their education.

We would also like to thank the parents and caregivers who worked closely with us and allowed us to support students through individual circumstances. We have no doubt that this was a challenging period for you also and we are very grateful for your partnership.

Personally, I would like to congratulate and thank all of the staff on the Mathematics team. They were presented with an enormous amount of challenges and were able to work efficiently, effectively and professionally to develop solutions that allowed meaningful learning to continue for students. I know your students appreciate your efforts and so do I.

Unfortunately, current restrictions prevent us from offering our usual tutoring programs of ‘Maths Club’ and ‘Maths & Milo’. We look forward to being able to provide these in the future and will inform students as soon as we have an update.

For our Year 12 students, the completion of your HSC is fast approaching. It is vital that you continue to work closely with your teacher to achieve the best possible mark. Creating detailed topic summaries and completing past HSC papers under exam conditions should be forming part of your regular study habits.

Year 10 students should be currently considering their subject choices for Year 11. For those students who select a Mathematics course, it is extremely important to be placed in the correct course. Can I stress that each course has its own style and required skills and transferring courses during Year 11 and Year 12 is not ideal. Students are strongly encouraged to consult myself or their Mathematics teacher for individual guidance.

It’s great to be back on site with our students and we are looking forward to a positive Semester 2.
