Year Advisers Reports

8, 10 and 12

Year 8

Wow, what a crazy ride we have been on this term. One minute we are at school face-to-face like normal, then next minute we are all learning from home and then back to face-to-face learning.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Year 8 on how well they adjusted to the “new” way of learning. I know it was not easy and confusing at times, however, most students to the embraced the different learning style. The quality of work produced by the students was excellent and they should be proud of their commitment and effort.

Secondly, I would like to thank the parents/careers for their support over this crazy time. I know a lot of you had adjust your work hours and also having to work from home. I know this was a stressful period and your support is greatly appreciated by all.

Thirdly, I would like to thank all Year 8 teachers for continuing to adjust and provide engaging lessons for the students and for their support.

As we still move through this time of uncertainty, I remind students to talk to their parent/careers, teachers and/or friends if they are struggling to cope with what is going on. We are all here to support one another.

During this term a group of 10 Year 8's had to opportunity to partake in competition for a new chilled water station run by Central Coast Local Health District. The students completed an application including a stop motion animation video and an exciting rap for the competition. I am pleased to announce that we were lucky enough to WIN (against 7 other schools). Congratulations to Milana S, Pia M, Aidan W, Sarah L, Felix T, James V, Delany M, Skye C, Evan M and Sanika N for their wonderful application.

Term 3 is going to be an exciting term for Year 8. Tuesday afternoon sport will resume from Week 2, this includes outside school paid sport. Subject selection for electives in Stage 5 (Year 9 and 10) will be happening very soon. There will be more information released about subject selection early next term.  I encourage Year 8 to start thinking about what elective subjects they would like to do for the next 2 years.

During the upcoming holidays, I encourage students to enjoy the break, stay safe and keep active.

Remember to be kind to one another and kind to yourself.

Year 10

What an eventful term we have had!

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Year 10 students on how they conducted themselves through quite a different and trying time in their educational journey. It was good to see a lot of Year 10 stepping up and taking responsibility for their work ensuring they were communicating with their teachers and trying their best with all of the work. Well done!

We do have some student who although worked are behind on the online work. I encourage them to complete it as soon as they can so that they cover their course content.

It was a really rewarding experience reading Year 10 Semester One reports. So many students have shown good improvement from last year and a lot of maturity towards their work. Amazing!

As you know Year 10 have started the progress of picking their subjects for Senior School. I would like to congratulate them on how proactive they have been despite having to go through the process in a very different way, due to the times.

Finally we have finished Semester One with a fundraiser for our Dinner/Dance at the end of the  Year. Many Year 10 students volunteered to be part of the fundraiser and we were very thankful that so many students and teachers supported us as we start planning our Dinner/Dance.

Just a reminder, Year 10 students will have their interviews in Week 1, Term 3. They will receive notification of their time. Please keep a look out for this.

I hope all of Year 10, and their families, have a relaxing and peaceful break. I look forward to seeing you all next term!

Year 12

Year 12 have just completed what may be the most unique and unexpected school terms in HSC history. Adjusting to online remote learning was a difficult challenge but the year group responded to it in a mature way, demonstrating their resilience and ability to persevere.

Being socially isolated was difficult but we managed to overcome it to an extent through the posting of photographic memories of their younger years and sharing exercising challenges in our Facebook group/Google Classroom – I’m looking forward to seeing them published in the yearbook!

Once students began to return on site this term, the staff were surprised and overjoyed to be presented with a beautifully crafted poster created by Year 12, which was decorated with messages from the year group thanking their teachers for their support. It is now proudly hanging in the staff common room to remind staff that their hard work is appreciated and that we are lucky to be surrounded by such caring students.

On Wednesday 1 July, Year 12 participated in a fun wellbeing day to help boost their motivation for the last leg of their HSC journey and to compensate for missing out on other social events due to the pandemic. They donned their best Hawaiian/novelty shirts, indulged in pancakes for recess and were destroyed by their teachers during a much anticipated staff vs student dodgeball at lunch. A great day was had by all!

Year 12 now need to use this new burst of motivation to keep focussed during the winter holidays, as this needs to be a time of revision in preparation for the trial HSC exams in Weeks 4 and 5 next term. This break will provide a great opportunity to catch up on work missed during online learning and to consolidate their knowledge from across the year. Many staff are running study workshops on site during the holidays, so students are encouraged to ensure they attend these as a lot of effort goes in to providing these sessions.

Next term is the final full term on site for Year 12. It will be exceptionally busy, and at times very stressful, but there will also be lots of enjoyable moments and life-long memory will be made. Students should make sure that they balance revision over the next two weeks with taking time to unwind and refresh themselves ready for their last term in their schooling careers.
