Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we moved to Phase 4 of our Managed Return to School with all students and staff returning. It has been wonderful to have our whole school back together again. There are still challenges ahead and we need to be able to move with agility to adapt to these as they occur. I have been amazed by how well our students have managed the transition. For some of our students it has not been easy and extra support is available at any time. This includes working with our Wellbeing Team of Mrs Mellissa Bell, Mrs Katie Biddle and Mr Darryl Harper to address any particular needs or concerns. Counselling is also available from Centacare and the forms needed to access this are here.

Masterplan and Building Works

The contracts for the first stage of our masterplan have been signed and work will commence shortly on Stage 1. The infrastructure project is funded by the Catholic Schools Office and the Capital Grants Program. In the first stage, work will occur to complete a Performing Arts and Gym area, as well as completely renovating the main admin building, Angela, into a contemporary learning space, incorporating a library learning space. The work in Angela will bring to life many of the heritage components of the building that have been covered up over the years. Some images of the projected work are below:

The existing gym will be turned into Music rooms and extended to incorporate Dance and Drama studios, as well as performance space. A new gym will be added to the Western side to make a contemporary learning space capable of holding large events.

We are excited to begin this project and the facilities will add specialist areas to enhance our learning community. This will be a lighthouse project for our Diocese incorporating contemporary spaces into a significant heritage building. Protecting the past and building for the future.

Vale Peter Belson

It is with much sadness that I inform you that Peter Belson died during the week. Peter was a casual teacher at O’Connor and worked part-time last year in the Technology area. In the short time I knew Peter, he was a great colleague and showed his dedication to his profession. He worked hard with our students even when so sick. Our prayers are with Peter’s family at this time.

Give him eternal rest, O Lord,

and may your light shine on him forever.

Uniform

We understand that it has been hard to get the correct uniform items and have given some leeway in regards to correct uniform. From Tuesday 9th June, the following is to be followed

  • The only hat/cap allowed to be worn is an O’Connor hat.
  • The sports jacket is not to be worn in place of the blazer. It may be worn under your blazer on very cold days but is not generally to be worn with the winter uniform.
  • The Sports Hoodie is to be worn with the sports uniform. On very cold days, it maybe worn underneath a school jumper but never in place of a school jumper.
  • Tracksuit pants are to be the O’Connor ones.
  • Beanies must be school beanies.
  • Scarves must be blue and black.
  • Students are to wear the blazer to and from school.

The uniform shop is open Mondays from 8-12, Wednesdays 12-4 and on Fridays 10 - 2. If you have any issues in getting the correct uniform please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your continued support during this challenging time.

What new learning will you undertake this week?
