Year 9/10 Film Festival

By Aimee Stewart - Film Studies Teacher

Lockdown was an interesting time for the Year 9/10 Film Studies students. How do you run such a 'hands on' and collaborative elective when you are in isolation?

But challenges produce opportunity and the students rose to meet it by creating their own short films - which were premiered today in our inaugural BHCS Film Festival.

Before a select crowd of film aficionados and four special judges - including Madam McGrath and Mr Campbell - these students were interviewed about the process, fielded questions and then showed their films. I was thrilled by how proud the students were of their work, how appreciative of others' films and how amazing the finished products were.

The judges awarded our own 'Oscars' in both technical and narrative fields, with six students receiving awards. Throw in some popcorn, Maltesers and a generous helping of film trivia questions between each film (courtesy of our humorous hosts Nathan and Barney), this was an event that could very easily become a feature of our Media Studies here at BHCS.
