Student Voice Alliance
On Monday 7 August, three of our young leaders attended this term’s Student Voice Alliance meeting at Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College – Berkeley Vale Campus. The day centered around teamwork and leadership, and Georgia Riley, Tiarna Houghton and Gemma Sharpe brought their enthusiasm and energy to the many group task and challenges.
The new NSW Minister for Education, the Hon. Robert Stokes was also in attendance. While he didn’t take any questions from the students, he did seem impressed with the initiatives many Central Coast schools were implementing.
Next term’s Student Voice Alliance meeting is to be held here at Henry Kendall High School. These three students, as well as the rest of the team, are excited to showcase our school and organise and engaging and interesting day.

Young Achievers Celebration Evening
On Wednesday 19 July, our annual Young Achievers Celebration Evening was held. It was amazing to see the high standard of work that both classes have completed across each of their courses. With a mixture of performances, presentations and displays, families and friends had many opportunities to engage in and learn from what our amazing students have produced over the first half of this year.
It was clear that the students had been busy working both collaboratively and individual on a number of projects across the school. The audience were wowed by the musical performances, moved by their ANZAC service, impressed by their scientific models and educated by the English projects.
We look forward to seeing what the classes produce in the second half of the year.

What Could You Do With $20?
$20 Boss is an in-school challenge, run by year 7 at Henry Kendall High School, which provides student teams $20 of start-up money (from NAB) to create their own business. At the end of the program, students are encouraged to pay back the start-up money, with a $1 legacy payment.
It’s a fantastic way to engage young people and encourage their entrepreneurial spirit. This unique learning experience encourages students to create a real world business while building important skills such as: innovation, creative thinking, financial literacy, collaboration, communication and teamwork. We believe it is important for students to be self-empowered and consider entrepreneurial careers in the future.
Understanding that businesses can have a social or environmental purpose is a powerful tool for making the world a better place!
Further details about this wonderful program and dates are to come.

From the Library
With new carpet and new shelving installed downstairs the library is looking very fresh and contemporary. Display shelves allow new books to be showcased and alert students to the wide variety of novels available. Students are able to access resources and enjoy the different seating and learning areas in class, before school and in their breaks.
CBCA Children’s Book Week 2017
The illustrator, Freya Blackwood, has designed the poster artwork for this year’s theme.
