This year, one of the priorities for the Student Executive is to create engagement and a positive sense of community within the school. We have been working hard to promote this vision through organising events such as Harmony day and Idahobit day. We have also raised student awareness and created a sense of community by working together to raise funds for worthwhile causes such as Cancer research (The World’s Greatest Shave and Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea) and Kids Under Cover (supporting homeless children).

Another initiative in which I have been largely a part of organising this year is the inclusion of multicultural, multilingual music  to play over the PA system at bell times. Music of different languages and cultures (based on the cultural diversity of the school community) is played before the bells sound. We have sought input from a variety of students to accomplish this, especially students who may not usually contribute their voice within our school community. On some occasions, we have also had students introduce music over the PA, in both the language of the song and in English.

We want all students of Brunswick Secondary College to know that the many cultures represented here are welcome, accepted and appreciated - because we are all one community.
