BSC Athletics Carnival Wrap Up

Richard Andrew

Sport Coordinator

The Annual BSC Athletics Carnival saw a record number of student attendance arrive at the Mooney Valley Athletics Centre, just like Swimming Carnival in Term 1.

With a perfect day of sunshine, students turned up in their House colors ready to compete and win points! Twenty-seven (27) Individual event records were also broken on the day which is an indication of the growing talent we have at our school.

The college is thoroughly committed to encouraging participation and inclusion at these events as they are not considered just events where  “superior" athletes to shine, but for everyone to work together and have a good time. Students can earn points for their Houses just by participating in events and this contributes to making the points tally very close.

This year, we congratulate Oro (Gold) House who rung the Brunswick Bell at the end of the day.  Oro was very closely followed by Cagaar (Green).

Athletics day was a great success for Brunswick Secondary College as a whole.

I loved seeing students from all Houses getting involved, as this made for an excitingly close and competitive event. The new venue in Moonee Valley Athletics Centre was superb, accomodating hundreds of students. Congratulations again to everyone from ORO who competed, bringing us our second win this year. We will all need to give a very special effort if we want to be the first house at BSC to pull off a fabled clean sweep of the three carnivals this year - Swimming, Athletics and Cross-Country.

The Athletics Carnival was a blast! I got to hang out with my friends and play sports that I haven't played in a while.  You had a choice if you wanted to play competitively or not. It was also fun because we got ribbons if we got 1st, 2nd or 3rd. It was nice to see everyone having fun and contributing to the team.

The Athletics Carnival was really fun. The best part of the day was high jump because everyone did really well. This event   was the start of the day so we all got to know each other while we were in line. We did shotput first and we both threw a lot further than we thought we would. We all had to do 400 meters run but the rest of the activities were optional. We tried to do every activity but at the end we were tired so we didn’t do triple jump. The sausage sizzle was amazing and a fantastic idea. I am so glad that we went to the amazing athletics carnival.

The athletics day was sunny and everyone was dressed up in there colours. I participated in every event. The best part of the day was when I beat my triple jump PB (Personal Best) and jumped 8.58 metres. Unfortunately Lan Se didn’t win overall but I didn’t really care - I had fun!

I liked the Athletics Carnival because we got out and had some fresh air! The activities were good because they gave people the option to play competitively or just for fun, so everyone could enjoy the events while earning points for their House. And best of all, we got free sausages!
