Below are some recent examples of things that contribute  to making Brunswick Secondary College a strong community.

  • Thank you to the many parents who contributed to the recent bake sale for the BSC Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser. All proceeds from this successful event were donated to the Leukaemia Foundation.
  • Volunteers from our Parents Association once again ran a busy second hand uniform sale, providing a valuable service to both the school and families
  • Our students once again supported IDAHOBIT Day (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia) and raised awareness and funds through the casual dress day last month.  Funds were donated to Kids Undercover - a charity that assists homeless youth.  The film of our students participating (along with other local school students)  in the Rainbow colour bombing of the Fawkner  Police Station was featured at recess on IDAHOBIT Day. You can see the Victoria Police facebook post about this event here.

All of our Year 10 students participated in Work Experience in May and we are very appreciative to the employers who hosted them.  There is a wonderful example of a placement which provided rich learning in this edition of the Brunswick Star.  Year 10 students will be able to use this  work experience to guide their VCE or VCAL choices next term.

The Oliver! Production Camp  was also run over the last weekend in May - with 120 students  in attendance. Students 'camped' overnight at the school under staff supervision and participated in extended rehearsals as well as team-building exercises and social activities. The Performing Arts faculty is most grateful to the many staff who attended and assisted with the camp, as well as to the many families who made significant (and tasty!) food donations for the company.

Year 10 and 11 students finish the term with their Semester 1 examinations and all students enrolled in a Unit 3 or 4 subject will be sitting the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Wednesday 13 June.  We wish all students well with these examinations. The conduct so far of the Year 11 students in their examinations has been commendable.

We highlighted the achievement of Iris Shuttleworth through the Latest News on our website, but it is worth repeating Iris’s achievement here.  Iris (Year 12, 2017) was recognised with a Premier’s VCE Award. Last year Iris earned a perfect study score of 50 for English. Not all students who receive study scores of 50 receive a Premier’s Award - Iris was one of  only seventeen students who received this highest honour for English.  Iris is now studying for a Bachelor of Arts at The University of Melbourne.
