MYSci science program

MYSci is a three-day science program designed specifically for students in Years 11 and 12 in 2019 and includes workshops from Monash University’s five Schools of Science; Biology, Chemistry, Physics & Astronomy, Mathematics and Earth, Atmosphere & the Environment.

The workshops will be run in Monash’s teaching laboratories and outdoor science classrooms. Students will also have direct access to Monash University’s research scientists who will provide an insight into their disciplines and provide students with potential career pathway information.

Date: Wednesday 15 – Friday 17 January 2019

Venue: Monash University Clayton campus

Work Experience 2019 opportunity

1: Monash Health

The program is offered to Secondary School students undertaking Years 10 to 12, preparing them to enter the workforce. Students participating in the program are given the opportunity to spend one week only (five consecutive working days) within available departments to observe and participate in the daily activities of those departments.

Please note: Applications will only be accepted via e-recruitment. Work experience vacancies will close once positions have been allocated and filled.

Year 12 information

Getting your results - process and registration

VCE results and ATARs will be released at 7am Friday 14 December.

To access your VCE results and ATAR online, you will first need to register. To register, students will need to provide their name, VCE student number, date of birth and an email address. You will be asked to create a password which needs to be between 7 and 32 characters. The joint VCAA/VTAC results website is https://resultsandatar.vic.edu.au – free access. The website will open 7am Friday 14 December and close 12 noon Wednesday 19 December 2018. The joint results app will be in operation over the same time frame.

NOTE: The Results and ATAR service log in details are different from your VTAC ID and PIN.

You should by now have registered via the joint VCAA/VTAC results website. You will also receive an ATAR statement in the mail.

Important: tax file number for course places

Year 12 students are reminded that they cannot enrol in a CSP (Commonwealth Supported Place) university course next year without a Tax File Number (TFN). Students who do not have one are reminded to apply for a TFN online and have their identity verified through an interview at a participating Australia Post office.

Change of preferences

Remember it's easy to add or remove courses on your preference list anytime up until Noon Wednesday 19 December when it closes for round one offers to be processed. You may want to amend your preferences if you have changed your mind about which course you most want to study, if a new course has become available and you would like to add it to your preference list, or if a course you had applied for has been cancelled and you want to replace it in your preference list.

There is no cost involved in changing your preferences. Don't forget to list courses in the order you would most like to study them, with the course you most want to get into at the top.

Below is a CHANGE OF PREFERENCE (COP) DATES AND CONTACTS 2018 reference sheet. This information is only a guideline and it is important that you do check dates and times.

Some important tips are:

1. Check course selection criteria carefully.

2. Some courses can't be added after certain dates.

3. Don't delete and re-add courses – use the re-ordering arrows.

4. Change of preference will reopen after each offer round, and close before the next one.

This guide has been put together to help you be successful in your first year of post secondary studies. Whether that is starting a vocational course, undergraduate study or taking a gap year, we think you will find this handy little booklet useful.

What if you think you won’t get a place at university?

Remember there are many alternatives. Some suggestions are:

Apply for a related TAFE course if you have not done so already
Apply for a course at Monash College or Deakin College (see VTAC Guide)
Complete a Diploma in Tertiary or Foundation Studies – e.g. at Monash University, RMIT and Victoria University
Nursing - complete a Diploma of Nursing at TAFE
Aim for a Supplementary Offer in January (see VTAC website)
