Principal's Report

At this week's Senior School Assembly we recognised our newly elected Student Representative Council as featured above. I congratulate all boys and girls and look forward to their honest feedback.
One of my great joys as principal is that I learn from all ages! Yesterday I spent the morning with our three year olds in the ELC Piccolo class. I watched them unpack their lunch, paint, play outdoors, create with plasticine, glue bling on CDs and that was all before recess! They were engaged and creative.
Almost a decade ago, our ELC first embraced the Reggio Emilia approach as an educational philosophy. It appealed as the founder, psychologist Loris Malaguzzi, believed that people form their own personality during early years of development and that children are endowed with "a hundred languages" through which they can express their ideas. The aim of this approach is teaching children how to use these symbolic languages in everyday life. I like how the program is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery in a supportive and enriching environment based on the interests of the children.
After watching our students and their talented teachers, Mrs Frances O’Brien and Mrs Sharon Williams, I am convinced our ELC programme has enormous merit. I look forward to my next visit and watching each child’s personality evolve.
