Year 12 Information

Special Provisions For Year 11 into Year 12 Students
The Board of Studies has a program to help students with support in the Higher School Certificate Examinations. This practical support is known as provisions and assists students to read examination questions and to write their answers. Provisions include rest breaks and extra time.
Students may need provisions for-
· a permanent condition, such as diabetes or reading difficulty, Mental Health issues
· a temporary condition, such as a broken arm
· an intermittent condition, such as back pain when sitting for long periods.
Over 5000 HSC students apply for provisions each year. These provisions help students to show the markers what they know and can do.
To apply for provisions, the school submits an online application to the Board of Studies, this application tells us which provisions the student is requesting and includes recent evidence. Evidence may include medical reports, reading results, spelling results, writing samples and teacher comments.
Students interested in applying need to see Student Services to gain further information before the end of Term 3.

Students intending to go to university in 2017 are reminded to fill in their ontime application forms to the University Admissions Centre (UAC) by 30 September. It is highly recommended that students actually do this well before this date because once registered they can then apply for the Schools Recommendation Scheme. This is a rating system completed by the school and as the term concludes on 23 September, it would need to be done in ample time before this date to allow the school adequate lead time to process the applications.
Early entry to Macquarie University through the Global Leadership Program closes on 29 August, students need to allow time for the school to validate these applications. UAC handbooks are available at school from the Careers room. Students need to check for early admission schemes for the actual university they wish to attend. These are available on university websites for each individual university. Contact details are in the handbook.
Macquarie University is also offering an online module which takes approximately 12 hours to complete, enabling students to gain 3 bonus points to enter Macquarie. This credit lasts for 3 years and could be completed after the HSC exams. It is called "The Big History Scheme."
Apprenticeship/traineeship opportunities will be advertised in the Daily Notices with copies attached to the door of the Careers room as they become available. The Hunter and the Northern Institute TAFE courses can be investigated online and should be updated by late October for 2017. Also Central Coast Group Training has a list of available apprenticeships/traineeships for our area and students can subscribe to alerts by applying on their website.
Needless to say, the best opportunity students have to achieve their best HSC result is to attend school regularly until the last day to take full advantage of the expertise offered by our school staff.
