Principal's Report

Flexible. Resilient. Positive. 2021

From Mrs Barr's Desk

4 Weeks to Go!

Yes there are only 4 weeks left in the term. More information has been sent home about the further easing of restrictions and the process for a positive contact. Masks are to be worn by all staff and students from grade 3 to 6 when inside and is advised for students in foundation to grade 2.

A reminder that Friday 26 November is a Pupil Free Day. This day will be used as a reporting and assessment day for teachers. They will meet in teams at school to moderate on the data, and then have time for individual report writing. The student reports will be available in the last week of the term through Sentral parent portal.

Staggered Starts and Finishes Ends

After seeking advice from DET and consulting staff, we have decided to end the staggered starts and finishes from Wednesday. All students will start school at the same time. I ask the grade 3 to 6 students to enter the site without parents where possible. Parents of students in foundation to grade 2 are welcome to accompany their child on site if needed.

It has been noticed that parents are waiting for their child to move into the classroom and therefore the staggered start was slowing down the important start to the day and some students were becoming anxious.

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest was celebrated this week. Thank you to the German team Frau Lindner, Frau Taylor and Frau Kent.  It was a great day with lots of students getting into the spirit of the day celebrating German learning.

Grade 5/6 Production "The Amazing Adventures of Superstan"

Megan Campbell has been organising the viewing of the grade 5/6 production The Amazing Adventures of Superstan on Thursday. The easing of restrictions has allowed this to occur with density limits and other COVID safe practices. Information is going out to the families in these levels.

The whole school will see this later in the term. Well done to the team that has led this - Megan Campbell, Deirdree Geilings and Ryan Evans with grade 5/6 teachers. The parents who helped on the day and before with props, costumes, photos and makeup- thank you.

Junior School Council - Icy Pole Day

Our JSC reps were busy on Friday visiting classrooms for the icy pole sales. There will be a meeting this week to finalise the last projects to be funded this year by a keen group of student leaders from across the levels.

Thank you! We appreciate you helping with all the counting

Remembrance Day 2022

Again we had huge sales of poppies by senior student leaders and live streaming of the Remembrance Service from the Shrine. Our school captains Elise and Luke attended the service with Ms Ferguson. The moving service  was led by the Mitcham RSL and attended by a number of local schools.

Foundation 2022 Transition and Information Evening

Finally we can have our future students on site - this is great news for our foundation team, families and importantly, our 2022 foundation pupils. Parents were able to come on site and were met by our student leaders. This was all kept outside and to ensure we are keeping bubbles going, the teachers supervised our current foundation students in another section of the school. Teachers led their future students to their classrooms.

Foundation Information session was live streamed on our school Face Book page as we did last year. This session can be viewed by our parents at their convenience.

Final School Council Meeting 24 November - 2022 and beyond

The final meeting will cover the approval of the indicative budget for 2022. I will also advise the council on the process of the appointment of the next principal at Rangeview. I emailed families last week of my decision to retire as effective from 2 February 2022. This gives me time to clear my desk and help out any January projects.

Thank you for all the messages of congratulations I received after I announced my retirement, and as I said in the email last week, there is always more to do and it was not an easy decision to make. I do look forward to next stage of my life and whatever that brings. The leadership team has been preparing for this as I wanted my knowledge as the principal of the school shared. There will be a hand over the selected substantive principal.

Staffing News - Farewells

Michael Sacchetta has successfully applied for a Sport and PE teacher role at a large secondary school, Hazel Glen in Doreen. This is a one year position and Michael's full time PE role will be allocated to Mitch Clark for 2022. Congratulations to Michael who will be missed by us- colleagues and students and families. Michael has been at Rangeview for 6 years and he has built a quality program. He takes these skills to his new school and I wish Michael all the best.
