FASHION POLLUTION....What's the Problem?

Hello parents, students and teachers of Murrumbeena Primary School.

We would like to inform you that there is a worldwide problem that is happening right now. You may be asking yourself, what is this problem? Well, it is fashion pollution.

Fashion pollution is massive piles of clothing that are getting disposed of every second around the globe. This waste is polluting our land, the air around us as well as the ocean, and the problem is only getting worse. We are telling you this so you can make a change before it is too late. Some things you can do to help stop fashion pollution are:

  • Buy good environmentally friendly clothing that is made from sustainable materials (not plastic polyester items)
  • Don’t become obsessed with constantly changing fashion trends - clothing manufacturers persuade you to buy the cheap, fast fashion items of clothing. These are usually the worst culprits in adding to fashion pollution.
  • Don’t throw away your clothes once a trend is over - instead keep the clothing or donate it to op shops or people in need. You can even pass it on to a friend/family member.
  • Consider up-cycling unwanted clothing and make it into something new like a bag, artwork, rugs/blankets etc.

Every small effort can make a big difference to this global catastrophe. Do your bit and reduce your fashion waste.
