From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

During the second week of Advent we focus on John the Baptist’s challenge to "prepare the way of the Lord." The first candle lit during the first week of Advent was the candle of hope; this can also be known as the ‘prophecy candle’ as we remember the Old Testament prophecies of the coming of the Messiah. The second candle lit this week is the candle of peace. This candle reminds us that the angels declared "peace on earth" at the birth of Jesus. Jesus offers us not only a peace within ourselves, but also peace with others. We can know and experience peace today in our relationship with Jesus Christ.

We are really pleased to be able to welcome Tina Thompson to St Anne’s College this week as she joins our staff in the role of Koorie Education Worker. This position has remained vacant since Leonie Drummond left earlier in the year and we are very keen for Tina to step into the role and continue to build on the great work already done in this space.

Excitement is building as we continue preparations for our first annual Christmas picnic concert. We are really excited to be able to share with the wider community the extraordinary gifts and talents of our students and some staff too! Whilst we will have to adhere to some requirements, we are confident of being able to provide a COVIDSafe environment for the event.

Last week saw us dealing with our first instance of COVID positive cases. The cases were discovered in the Year 7 cohort. Students who were close contacts were required to attend a testing clinic for a PCR COVID test. There was one other case picked up through this process; we had a total of three cases. We continue to follow our COVIDSafe plan and believe that this has assisted in minimising the opportunity for the virus to spread. I would like to thank all of our families for their swift response to the situation, getting tested and facilitating a smooth, safe and quick transition back to onsite learning.
