PRINCIPALS REPORT

Lyn Strachan

As most of you would be aware, we were informed on Sunday evening, that we had a positive covid case on site, early last week.

We were well supported through the process by Department of Education and later by the Public Health Unit. It is great to know there are people around us who have managed such situations before.

The families have been absolutely amazing and worked with us even though we did make a few errors along the way.  Firstly, we apologise for any confusion we created, and secondly, we now have a more streamlined system ready, if this ever happens again.  Fingers crossed it doesn’t!

EEPS has strong Covid safe practices in place and we will ensure these are maintained. Just to mention a few:

  • Sanitising as students go into the school and classrooms.
  • Sanitising as they go out to play.
  • Sanitising after toilet visits.
  • 3-6 students wearing face masks when indoors.
  • Physical distancing when possible.
  • Minimising the mixing of year levels.
  • Cleaning of classrooms during lunch break and after school.
  • Keeping records of variations to any of our programs

We can only ask our families to be vigilant and when/if this virus does impact your home, as was with this current situation, you let us know as soon as possible. If out of hours feel free to leave a message on the answering machine or email the school Echuca.east.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

With the new rules that came into effect at midnight last night, unfortunately the rules don’t immediately click in with government schools, so our students do need to get another PCR test and can return after they receive a negative result. Our seven staff who were also isolating are able to be back now.

I cannot finish this report without special mention of Lindy Burke and Jodi Boal, who met me at the school Sunday evening to commence the work.  We worked through to 11pm and then continued all Monday.
