Notes

Year 12 VCE

The 2018 VCE English examination is 41 days away, scheduled for Wednesday October 31 and students are clearly in the final phase of their preparations for that and all other VCE examinations. The school has arranged a comprehensive schedule of holiday classes to enable revision lessons to be delivered and practice examinations to be completed and I would like to publically thank our teachers for their commitment and Mrs Plunkett for arranging the schedule. To the Year 12 students-use the upcoming weeks effectively, work hard and I hope you achieve the results you deserve.

Step Up Program

This year we will again be running a ‘Step Up’ program for current Year 10 and Year 11 students. The program will begin in week nine of term four, on Monday December 3. The ‘Step Up’ program will run for two weeks and will assist our students to be prepared for their VCE and VCAL studies in 2019. The aim of the program is to introduce necessary concepts and skills to students in preparation for the following year and to provide an enhanced transition program into VCE and VCAL. Please note this is an important and compulsory program for all students moving into Year 11 and 12

Alexander Brendish

It is with pleasure that I acknowledge the following achievement by Alexander (Sandy) Brendish of Year 9. In a letter received recently from the Chief Commissioner of Scouts Victoria I was advised that Sandy has earned the Australian Scout Medallion. In order to earn this honour Sandy was required to attain the top award in each of the five ‘Sections in Scouting’ and his dedication, self-discipline, teamwork and leadership were highlighted throughout the months and years of the process. Congratulations Sandy on the attainment of such an honour.

Pupil-Free Day

As part of our ongoing commitment to staff professional learning, Thursday October 25 will be a pupil-free day. All staff members will be engaged in a compulsory Cultural Understanding and Safety Training day presented by Department of Education Koorie Education Support Officers. I appreciate your understanding and support as I am aware that pupil-free days are often quite difficult to manage for many families.

Retirement and Return

As was reported earlier this term Mrs Cheryl Seggie, our Home Economics/Food Studies teacher aide, recently retired after 37 years of service to our school. Earlier this week Mrs Seggie was formally farewelled by current and former members of staff, as well as by a number of staff members from Healesville Primary School.  We all wished her the very best of luck for the future which, as it turns out, includes returning to Healesville High School for a few hours each week to act in the role of ‘art assistant’ to our hard-working art domain staff members.

Welcome back Cheryl!

Holidays

Finally, I would like to extend my regards to all students and their families for a safe and relaxing term break and I look forward to seeing all students and staff members safely back at school on Monday October 8th.
