Community Connections

MESAC is creating a coastal nature journal in which people can record their observations of nature, seasons and place. It will also have pages suitable for sketching and watercolour.

To help the user get started we will include some examples of observations in text and images. 

 

Would you be interested in contributing some? 

•    sketches (photographed/ scanned) 

•    photos

•    paintings (photographed/ scanned)

•    short notes on observations of any of the themes and topics listed below

•    summary of scientific aspects of any of the themes and topics listed below

 

Your contribution would be unpaid but acknowledged. 

You may already have something that would be suitable.

The editors will review and make a selection through the year. There is no specific deadline for contributions at this stage. 

Please ensure that you include with your item the following information: 

•    Name 

•    Title (if any) 

•    Media 

•    Date of creation 

•    Contact email and phone

 

Themes (content that recurs throughout the book) 

•    Seasonal change - indigenous and western seasons 

•    Symbiosis and collaboration in nature

•    Longer time cycles - years, decades, millennia 

 

Topics (these will likely be designated to a particular month)

•    Seaweeds

•    Shore finds e.g. shark cases, squid eggs

•    Shorebirds e.g. migration, unusual visitors 

•    Coastal plants

•    Fossils

•    Shells

•    Sand

•    Fish

•    Life under water

•    Foreshore social observations/erosion etc 

•    Animals and insects

•    Flotsam and jetsam

•    Astronomy

 

If you have something that does not fit neatly into one of the themes or topics but you think it is of general interest, feel free to send anyway. We look forward to perusing an interesting collection of contributions!
