Principal's Report

“Our fatigue is often caused not by work but by worry, frustration and resentment.”  Dale Carnegie

The fatigue of an online learning experience is setting in for us all.  We have now had 15 school days of learning in this remote online approach. We know that the transition to this model has been successful but there are some worries that students, teachers and parents are experiencing.  However, we know that this is not a forever proposition. We are frustrated that Stage 3 restrictions are continuing but we know that the health of our community is a priority in this decision.  Our Premier has made very difficult decisions in the process.  This has led to frustration from the federal government and mixed messages.  We believe that our community needs to stay healthy and minimise the risk of transmission through Stage 3 restrictions which includes remote learning.  The screen time with remote learning is tiring.  The lack of face to face social interactions at school are missed by all.

It is normal to feel a sense of fatigue which Ben Franklin described as “the best pillow”.   It is about having a rest and getting back to the task when you have had a rest or a break or maybe even a nap.  It is important to show care and patience for yourself and your family.  Balance online time with interactions with the family –why not try your very own Masterchef challenge or Backyard Blitz or Family Spelling Bee just to name a few. This is also an opportunity to have conversations with each other, check out Wellbeing Matters for links to resources and workshops.  Also find attached an article that looks at how other countries are going.

One of our teachers, Jordan Bakker, has written a song about reducing the rate of infection.  There is a music video that includes how our teachers are managing in isolation and with remote learning.  I hope that you all enjoy this.  The creativity of our amazing team never ceases to amaze me.

I would also like to share an article that highlights the way we use technology as a tool for learning. https://educationhq.com/news/strategic-innovation-schools-lead-the-way-with-technology-in-2020-76489/
