National Tree Planting Day

At school recently, we celebrated National Tree Day. On this special day, we planted an amazing range of Australian native plants. I have listed some of them below.

  • Midyim Berry (Austromyrtus dulcis)
  • Lemon Scented Myrtle (Backhousia citrodora)
  • Aniseed Tree (Backhousia aniisata)
  • Native Mint (Prostanthera rotundifolia)
  • Mountain Pepper (Tasmannia lanceolata)
  • Yam Daisy (Microseris lanceolata)
  • Purple Sheath Tussock Grass (Poa ensiformis)

It was really great to see everyone get involved in planting trees and to see everyone trying out new things that they maybe wouldn't have thought about doing.

A big thank you to our amazing gardener, Robin, for helping us maintain the garden and for the plants around the school. Not to mention Ms Chiuchiarelli and Ms McGee for all the hard work that they put into this very special day!

MyCity Excursion: a fantastic introduction to DSC!

As a student teacher, I have only been with Doncaster Secondary College for a week so far. I have been so impressed with how independent and mature the students are. On my second day here I was lucky enough to go with Mrs Gucciardo and some of the year 9 MyCity students on an excursion to visit the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). Three Year 9 students, Chelsea, Juliette and Nanki, organised and ran the entire excursion for us. As we rode on the bus toward the city, everyone chatted excitedly, eager to arrive at the NGV. It was fantastic t to see students walking around in small groups and excitedly examining different pieces of art.  After eating our lunch at the Southbank promenade we caught the bus back to the College.

Everyone was quite tired and worn out from their big day. Despite their exhaustion, I was delighted to see students helping an elderly man with a walking frame as he attempted to get on the bus. We arrived back at school a few minutes before the bell. The students timed the excursion perfectly. What a fantastic introduction to Doncaster Secondary College!
