Assistant Principals' Report

Student Led Conferences
A friendly reminder to families that Student Led Conferences will close at 3.00pm on Monday, 26 August.
Conferences will start at 12.00pm and conclude 8.00pm on Tuesday, 27 August. There will be no scheduled classes operating on this day.
We expect students to attend the conference and lead the conservations. Students have been working collaboratively with their subject teachers to set personal learning goals which can be discussed at the conferences.
We look forward to seeing students and families on next Tuesday.

Hooptime Coaches
A number of our students have supported our local Primary Schools through their involvement as coaches and officials within the Primary School sports program. Involvement in these opportunities aims to develop leadership, organisational and communication skills. Over the past two weeks, our students supported the Hooptime Basketball Tournament at Mullum Mullum stadium through coaching Milgate Primary School teams. Mr James Will from Milgate Primary School communicated his appreciation to the students, noting that they were a real asset and great credit to Doncaster Secondary College and that it made the day run extremely smoothly.
In 2020, we will look to connect more students with their Primary Schools at these events in an effort to support our local community. Thank you to all of the students involved: Jordan, Ellie, Melissa, Christine, Stevan and Jasmine. Well done to Mak and Cody for taking on the responsibility of refereeing the tournament!
PROJECT ROCKIT Digital Ambassadors Event
A selection of forty Year 7 and 8 students from Doncaster Secondary College were involved in the PROJECT ROCKIT Digital Ambassadors event last week. They joined approximately 280 students from approximately 14 schools in our Presentation and Performance Centre. The aim of the Digital Ambassadors program is to explore the risks and rewards of the digital world, foster empathy and equip young people with the tools to challenge (cyber) bullying, create social change and use their online power for good. The wellbeing team will work with these students to reflect on key learnings and identify the next steps as Digital Ambassadors.
DSC and Persian Community Evening
Doncaster Secondary College (DSC) collaborated with the House of Persia Community and Cultural Centre (HOPE) to develop a program to strengthen relationships between Persian families, the school and wider community. Approximately ninety people attended the evening, including parents (past and present), Persian community leaders, students (past and present), and DSC staff. Our speakers from the Migrant Information Centre and HOPE provided information on community support available to Persian families. Whitelion Victoria then spoke to our families about the challenges of raising adolescents during the digital age and the programs that they offer.
HOPE catered for all of our guests and then led focus groups (parent and student) aimed at improving the understanding of what our newly arrived families experience and their strengths and challenges. Ben Hollard (Year 10 Coordinator) and Malileh Panahi (Multicultural Education Aide) were instrumental in bringing the evening together. We hope that our experience in organising this event can serve as a template to engage families from a diversity of cultural backgrounds.
