Australian Science Olympiads - Physics, Chemistry and Biology

As Science is an integral part of most of our lives, from climate change, food security to disease prevention; the science that we learn today will have a significant impact on what happens on our planet tomorrow! It was impressive to see Doncaster Secondary College Science students use their critical knowledge and problem-solving skills to compete in the Australian Science Olympiads.

Genetics Excursion to The University of Melbourne

Last Friday, the entire Year 12 Biology cohort travelled to the University of Melbourne to conduct a range of practical experiments using DNA manipulating techniques and observing Fruit Flies (Drosophila Melanogaster); as part of the practical component in Biology.  The Fruit Fly experiment involved intergenerational quantification of genetic variations. We worked in the first-year practical lab and were instructed by Melbourne University Scientists and PhD students.

The excursion was highly insightful and very enjoyable. We would like to thank Mrs Hermon, Mrs Reid and the University of Melbourne for providing us with this rare learning opportunity to the DSC Biology Cohort.

Year 7 STEAM Project

My group and I really enjoyed the Simple Machines project. We found it was a fantastic way to learn about simple machines; as well as having fun working in a team. We were able to see how different machines could work together to lift heavyweights. Overall, we had so much fun and we became very competitive with our classmates.
